I read that I am supposed to have letters of recomondation from my junior/senior year English and Math teachers. I’m getting a bit nervous though, because I believe I will have trouble getting both. I have never met my math teacher for this year(I’m a junior) because he is new, and we have been on Zoom for the last year. There isn’t much room in the class to interact with him, he gives his lesson, asks if there is any questions, and sends us on our way. I rarely have any questions, because I understand the material well, so I say no questions and then am on my way. He doesnt know me, or what kind of person I am, so I find it very hard to ask him to write a LOR for me. What’s he gonna say? “Dear USAFA, He gets good grades, From Mr. G”. I have a similar, and possibly bigger issue with English. I took a self paced Eng 101 and then an accelerates Eng 102 class online with ASU, so I never had a teacher in the first place for that. I have no desire to become an English major, so there are no other English classes for me to take. Those fulfiled my 4 Eng credits for high school, and the ones for college, so I wont have an English teacher next year. Does anyone have any ideas for what to do?

Hey there! I'm also a 2026 applicant. Does you teacher have office hours or any other way of interacting with him through microphone/video chat through zoom? I find that interaction is hard to do and questions may be difficult through online school. I have a similar issue, it is hard to make a stronger bond with your teachers through a screen. I recommend (if your teachers have it) attending office hours through zoom or setting up a separate zoom meeting after class hours and trying to get to know your teacher more! I do this frequently whenever I attend club meetings. I usually ask them things like "How was your day?"or (since Spring Break may or may not be over for some people) ask them "How was your Spring Break?" Simple things like that really break the ice with teachers and help form a closer bond with your teachers. If you need more elaboration on the things I just mentioned, feel free to hit me back with any questions.

Hope this helped!

Have you pored through the USAFA links on this?

Specific teachers will fill out evaluation forms, which are different than actual letters of recommendation. Those will be more oriented to your performance as a student.

LORs, what is desired, and who they might come from, are described separately. The point is, they should be from someone who knows you and can speak to your character and other traits.

As mentioned above, try to interact with your math teacher more. Ask more questions, stay after and ask to clarify things, or try to learn more on the subject and ask him.

As for your English Teacher Evaluation, I believe admissions does allow another teacher of a similar subject (history, etc.) fill it out if you do not have an english teacher your junior and senior year.
