Lieutenant Colonel Scheller in the Brig

Just Googled it to discover that there are two schools of thought on this phrase. And while one involves heavy drug use, the other does not.

Nearly a year after former Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher was found not guilty of murder in his war crimes court-martial, which was marred by prosecutorial misconduct and spying, Gallagher and his wife have launched the nonprofit Pipe Hitters Foundation. The nonprofit will assist military service members, first responders, and their families with legal support.

He should donate it to Navy & Marine Corps Relief Fund and the sister service equivalent non-profits, DAV, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Fisher House, etc. This is just me wanting money to go where it can be used by folks who need it.
All great non-profits.

I owe so much to DAV for all their work in helping my family and I.

I hope he donates most if not all to some like this.

I can't get over the whole Pipe Hitter thing.

Do they not realize that 90% of people who see that term believe that it is either a misspelling of pipe fitter or a reference to someone who smokes a lot of crack or meth. I assume the contributions have all come from the remaining 10%.

The fact that the campaign has raised as much $ as it has tells me this country has more to be embarrassed by than our last 18 mos. in Afghanistan.
It's slang for spec ops types. Those in the know are the ones most likely to donate, so I don't think it's a huge marketing mistake.

"Hey, just let me out and I'll move on." No. Imagine Seaman Jones or Corporal Smith doing the same as this dirt bag. They'd have already been keel hauled. I told y'all. Scheller has this thing planned out and is punking us all.

Got to give him credit for figuring out how to play the UCMJ. Honorable discharge and $2M.

If he goes to a general court (and IMHO, he should), he's not coming out with an honorable discharge. I'd expect to see him convicted and dismissed.

Of course, I still believe in the rule of law so...

If he goes to General Court Martial (I agree he should) in my opinion he has no chance for Honorable. He is playing to public (who never heard of the UCMJ) perception and hopes they will take the easy way out and just get rid of him on his terms and hope it all goes away.

I would guess he knows he will be court martialed and dishonorably discharged. This seems more like a way to limit jail.

I think Officers are Dismissed not Dishonorably Discharged but it means the same thing just sounds nicer on the paperwork for an Officer and a Gentleman/Gentlewoman. Never thought of limited jail time.

In general, actual Dishonorable Discharges are pretty much limited to major felonies with typical 10 yr prison sentences in addition to the DD.

Other Than Honorable (OTH) is not always associated with prison sentences.

Just like For The Good Of The Service it sounds better. Just like Officers have received NSU on the record rather than VD for enlisted. Sounds a lot nicer on the record. Remember in the movie MASH when they asked if the guy on the table was an Officer or Enlisted and how big the stitches should be?

Then again it never made a difference in rank during Operation Golden Flow. There once was a General on a flight with I don't know how many samples that said if his plane carrying samples went down he would not be the lead story but that x amount of GIs would be held up on their return home. Hope he had a CAP on the way out.

Do the Pipehitters get their money back since he's not mounting a defense?

Will Eddie Gallagher think he's a wuss for taking the plea?

Well being that he is using the same lawyer as Gallagher I am sure he is getting paid. The lawyer, Parlatore, happens to be a USNA grad.

The Washington Times (Headline) said:
Marine officer jailed for Afghan criticisms to plead guilty to some charges

The Washington Times said:
A source familiar with the case told The Washington Times on Tuesday that Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller intends to plead guilty to each of the charges that were filed against him in the special court-martial, which is set for Thursday at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

The headline doesn't even match the story. Doh!
I wonder if you can get a plea bargain for a discharge that isn't "other than honorable" in a case like this? I would think that this would be his angle, at this point.

"Scheller, who has been in the US Marine Corps since 2005, stands to lose pay and other military benefits if he receives a discharge that is not honorable from the military.

His attorneys are working on a plea deal in which Scheller would receive either an honorable discharge or a general discharge with honorable conditions, which would allow him to keep certain military rights and benefits even after he is separated from the service, Parlatore told CNN in a phone interview.

But if he receives anything aside from an honorable discharge, he stands to lose military privileges including qualifying for the GI bill and qualifying for VA and medical benefits. With less than 20 years of service in the military, if he is separated under any discharge, even honorable, he will not receive any of the military retirement benefits."

After the first video was posted, Marine Corps spokesperson Maj. Jim Stenger said in a statement that Scheller had been relieved of command "due to a loss of trust and confidence in his ability to command."
"This is obviously an emotional time for a lot of Marines, and we encourage anyone struggling right now to seek counseling or talk to a fellow Marine. There is a forum in which Marine leaders can address their disagreements with the chain of command, but it's not social media," Stenger said.

The part in red was what stood out to me.

I also found his response to President Trump's offer of help interesting and was surprised by it.

In a Facebook post on September 25, Scheller said he didn't want or need help from former President Donald Trump, who was trying to weigh in on his behalf.

"President Trump, I was told by everyone to kiss the ring because of your following and power. I refuse," Scheller wrote on Facebook. "I hate how you divided the country. I don't need or want your help... tell your son to stop tweeting about me."

"Your whole family knows nothing about US or our sacrificies. I could never work with you," Scheller wrote in the same post. "I'd rather sit in jail and be released with a dishonorable than make compromises in my beliefs."
