Little or no moral support

If I can do this without going full motard:

When you graduate from USNA and go Marine Corps, once you get to the fleet you will be responsible for up to 45-50 Marines. Your competence can literally be a life or death issue: not just for you, but for them.
Even during peacetime, they are your Marines. You are the one who writes the FITREPS that determine whether or not they stay in the Marine Corps, or is standing with them making a recommendation to your CO to kick them out or not. You are the one who comes up with your unit's training plan so your platoon can stay competent at whatever it is it does, leading to your success/failure in combat. And, ultimately, you are solely responsible for anything your platoon does or fails to do.
As a logistics officer or other non-combat job, your ability and initiative can have huge ripple effects on the readiness of your unit and, again, may effect your larger unit's success or failure in combat. As a pilot, you will be flying a multimillion dollar aircraft, possibly with Marines in the back relying on you in case of an emergency, and possibly with Marines on the ground relying on you to deliver accurate close air support.

This is an awesome responsbility, and something that needs to be taken seriously. If you got into USNA, then you're presumably a decently smart individual with some demonstrated leadership ability.
Why not you? Is the best thing for our military and the country really to have stupid, uncompassionate leaders? This is an organization where you can do a tremendous amount of good, and we will always need good people to lead it. Why shouldn't that person be you?
