Any USNA parents living overseas? My 'singaporemom' status came while living in singapore several years agao, but we are in Texas now. Just found out we're heading to China. For now we are keeping our house in the US so we can come back for holidays for our plebe. Will DS have any time to visit us while we are overseas?

Are you on the plebe parent listserv? I believe there are some parents there that are overseas. You might want to ask your question there.

All mids who are in good standing (e.g., conduct) get leave at "Christmas" (winter break) and usually a full month during the summer. Both of those periods should provide sufficient time to visit overseas.

Winter break for my mid was 3 weeks long, and I think safer to travel far. I heard some Mids were called back early and it came as a surprise to them, but they either had academic issues or training for their sport started early. Your mid will know if that could be a problem.

Summer leave is a bit of a different animal. We got extreme whiplash this year when DS's schedule for 3rd block was changed many times. Once I actually called him as he was about to check in at the airport (a sudden change in orders meant he had to leave immediately) and had him come back home because his orders had been changed yet again. This kind of stuff might be challenging if your son is all the way in China and has less than 48 hours to return for the brief.

Where in China? Flights for MIDS are over the North Pole from BWI and long. Depending upon where you are located passport and visa might be a problem. Check now. as in ASAP.

Thanks all....WE'll be in Shanghai. We will most likely be in the states for the normal school holidays, but curious about IF he could come out to China during any one of those or Summer. He has a passport and husband's comnpany will look into getting the multiple entry VISA for the boys so they don't have to request one before each visit. Curious about the logistics.

If he can't come to us, I will come to the US.....no question about that! And the flight times, we are quite used to that! Have been on many 19 hour flights over the years.....plus airport time! Just have to make sure plebe has the time.

We know a mid that went to Bejing for Spring break during Plebe year to visit his brother.

Maybe since he speaks Chinese and will be studying Chinese, they'll be happy to have him visit China
