Hello everyone. First of all i want to thank everybody who is involved in this Forum. this has been a valubale tool for our entire family. My son received a LOA from the USAFA. He went to his nomination interview with our congressman and he was very surprised on how relaxed and he does not mean any disrespect by this: on how informal it all felt. The panel was very kind and very informative on giving him guidance on what he needs to do to get an appointment. He was not asked any of the traditional questions: IE "why do you want to go to a service academy?" They basically eloborated on what the LOA instructions had indicated he needs to do and they concluded the interview. We did not want to read much into this but does that mean that they will give him a nomination since he already has the Letter of Assurance from USAFA? We did not know if that was a good or bad sign...Please advise & thank you.

Nothing really to read into. Some interviewers are more informal than others. I personally tell candidates that when they come to my interview, that I DON'T want to see them in a tie and jacket. That I want them relaxed. My motives are a bit different than a congressional staff however. I'm looking to see who the "Real" applicant is. Of course I mentor and instruct them on how to go to the MOC interview. How to dress; speak; non-verbals; etc...

It's quite possible that because your son has an LOA and your congressional staff already knew this, that the interview was simply a formality. And that he'll pretty much receive a nomination. I can't promise that. Of course, all your son can do now is keep logging into his online application and see if says he received a nomination. Or wait until he hears back from the congressional office. Best of luck. Mike....

Thank you Christcorp for your insight. We will just have to enjoy the ride and take it one day at a time.
