LOA but no nomination

Congrats acpr17. Big red....not to late. Persistence.
I had no luck with the other districts. I'm in VA District 10, one of the most competitive in the country. District 9 said they consider it "cheating" to ask for a nomination from another district?? I am on the Hold NW list for USMMA and am reaching out to the coaches now. I am a 2 sport Varsity athlete (football and LAX) and captain of both teams for the last 2 years. I was trying to get in on my academic and leadership merit alone (pride goeth before the fall) but now am hoping to get a little extra juice from some interest from the coaches. Any advice?

Move to Micronesia, the Mariana Islands or American Samoa. They all get slots also and I doubt many nominations.

Seriously though, how can it be “cheating” if it expressly authorized under 33 CFR 310.53?

BigRed2, VA has 11 districts. Time to get on the road and visit and beg. Persistence. You have an LOA. Bring that to each and every office. It is not cheating, it is just different than the DOD schools. Bring the supporting documents for you to show them that they have the ability to issue a nomination. Do some research on their past nominations--have they ever nominated to usmma? if not, teach them about the school. Did they nominate anyone this year? if not, tell them you can be their guy. Research the service academy contacts in the offices. Reach out to them. Reach out to alumni or supporters of the rep that are usmma grads. If you want to go to usmma, you need the nomination. if you talk to everyone, go through any channels you can think of, I would hope someone would take a look at you. with an loa, the reps nomination is not "wasted". With the coaches and the like, they can't get you a nomination, but, they may be able to answer questions if the rep would call to discuss. a letter from the coach saying you would play may help with your road show to the rep offices.

Thanks, I'll keep you posted.

Thanks. I talked to one guy today who told me that since the official nomination process was over for their district they wouldn't re-open it. He seemed to be empathetic to my case. So I will keep trying.

After you have contacted every MOC in your state, then touch base with Your contact at USMMA. They may be able to add some guidance and assistance.

With everything going on at USMMA and the changes in the admission office employees, this may no longer be the case, but - - -
I would suggest contacting your admissions officer at USMMA and discuss the situation. They are well aware of what congressional members have not used all the nominations available to them and they are likely to work on your behalf if you are of real interest to USMMA. I know of one current midshipmen who was successful going this route.

I currently have a Letter of Assurance to USMMA however after all of my nomination interviews I was only able to secure a nomination to USNA. Is there anything I can do to receive a nomination at this point? I found out too late that nominations for USMMA could be obtained from Congressmen from other districts and after trying to contact Congressman Elijah Cummings' office I was unable to obtain one from him as well. I have reached out to my Admissions Officer and am hoping he will be able to help but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or if this is it.
Just keep in mind that a Congressional nomination is only step 1 (unlike the 3 military academies ... USNA, USMA, USAFA. The Coast Guard Academy does not require a Congressional nomination to my knowledge.). Unlike the military academies, step 2 is actual selection by USMMA. Step 3 is not failing out ... academics are very intensive. You should shoot for at least a 650 math SAT. Good luck.

Ask the representative who gave you USNA to switch it to USMMA. USNA is oversubscribed in MD so they would probably be happy to free up a slot and switch you to USMMA. If they are willing but the slots are used up, contact me and we'll get you direct help.
