Hello,

This past early September, I received an LOA for the Class of '23 at USNA. As I still need a nomination and know the LOA in itself is no guarantee of getting one, should I inform the offices of the Congressmen/Senators in my state of this? Or, alternatively, should I just bring a physical copy of the letter to the interview?

Thank you

Tell the staffer before the interview; email is OK. And then tell the interview panel, even if they don’t ask. Be humble, but be clear: “I’m incredibly honored to have received an LOA.”

Is your LOA pending only nomination, or is there another contingency? Oh, and do not, do not, do not stop working on Plan B. Until you’re actually standing in T-Court on I-Day, taking the oath, you are not in. S*** happens. Best wishes to you.

It is pending only nomination. It happened incredibly early (September 14th, I think), but I am still applying to other schools even though Navy is my top choice. I did, however, take a couple of "safety" schools of my list in light of the LOA.

Well done, @atanglejwoodg. Just remember: An LOA or even offer of appointment does not make USNA a safety school. At the risk of repeating myself: Until you’re actually standing.... ach, you get the point.

Congrats!

DS printed out a copy of his LOA and included it in his nomination package when he sent it in. His came in late August.

Wow...congratulations!! My DD now class of 2019 at USNA received a LOA prior to MOC interview also. She actually put together copies of her CV and LOA with a portrait picture to give to each of the interviewers. She left nothing to chance. Maybe overkill?. This was all her....not sure where she got the idea. My wife and I were out of town for this and she went alone. My DS just had his MOC interview (no LOA even though he is a way stronger applicant than his DD) and interestingly the head of the military board interviewers wanted to talk with parents and applicants together before the interviews, he asked if any of the applicants had LOA's.

Congrats! Take it all the way to Appointment! My son also received his LOA in Sep 2017. He sat on it until May 2018. He also got into other great colleges and Academies. He tells me why he waited so long. He loves the Naval Academy and proudly wheres the Uniform he had to earn. Looking sharp! Good luck with your journey and selection.

My DS asked the Nomination staffers before the interviews if they had been notified of his LOA.
They said that they had, so he didn't bring it up in the Interviews.

I was wondering if LOA came in the postal mail or basically how you were informed about it?
It's the proudest moment. Congratulations!

They will come by email first, and then a letter in the mail. It will also show up on your application portal.

congrats @atanglejwoodg !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

do you have any idea what triggered the LOA? or was it just a random surprise to you ?

I own/run my own company and would say I'm very well rounded; academics has always been my biggest strength. Unless you're asking in terms of test scores, grades, or other specifics....

Probably safe to say that no one outside of SA admissions knows what triggered any particular LOA — other than something very impressive about that person’s application. And probably safe to say that LOAs are a surprise to everyone who gets one.

My DD brought copies of her LOA and updates to her application, like a captain of a sport she received after she submitted her application. When she was seated at her interviews she told each panel she had brought copies of her LOA if they hadn’t received one.
