Hi,

I just got an LOA in the mail! I'm super stoked! However, I have a question.

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get a nomination from my congressman as I applied for a USNA nomination (Navy is my number 1) and the deadline has passed.

I'm going to apply for a USMMA nomination from my senator, however I'm from California and competition is tough.

If I'm unable to get one, will USMMA find me one? Or do I have another option for nominations? I heard somewhere I can apply for nominations from congressional districts which I don't reside in for USMMA, but that may be a rumor.

Thanks!

Call the congressman and explain the situation ASAP.

Yes, you can absolutely apply for a nomination from other congressional districts in your state. Also, as @Jmoney457 said, call your congressman and tell them you have an LOA to USMMA and would rather be considered for a nomination to USMMA rather than USNA. Congratulations!

The Academy will not find you one. Be proactive. There are many nomination sources. Start with your representative. More than likely, they’ll be happy to amend your application given the situation. Send them a copy of your LOA and follow-up with a phone call or visit to the office.

My DS received his LOA yesterday, he is so excited USMMA his is #1 choice. He has completed his CFA, DoDMERB, and is awaiting a MOC nomination, so after that is completed what is the next step?
It has been a long process as you are all aware. This forum has been extremely helpful and the time that people like KPMom2013, Jasperdog, JAMMZMOM and others invest into helping others is amazing. Thank you, I hope in the future i can do the same.

After he is nominated and the other criteria is met, he confirms his intent to attend and he receives an official appointment to the academy, as the MOCs nominee along with a package in the mail which contains the details along with a signed certificate by the superintendent.

PC_Tech, First congrats on the LOA. If your DS has not already done so, forward this to all who the people he applied to for a nomination. This will help the US Senator/Congressman - they will know that USMMA wants him and they (senator/congressman) will look good about nominating somebody they know will be accepted.

Again Congrats and welcome to the KP family.

Congratulations. It is a big honor to receive a LOA. Terrific that your DS is so far along in the process so early. Be sure to have DS send verification of his LOA to his MOC before his interview and let them know that KP is his #1 choice. Timing of the appointment depends on how fast your MOC gets nominations to the service academies. How quickly that happens depends on your MOC staff. Once admissions has the nomination, your appointment should happen right away. Welcome to the Kings Point family. Hold on because it does not get any easier from here!

Thank you all for your comments, looking forward to being part of the KP family. We will take your advice and send the LOA to the MOCs. He already had the interviews and at that time he stated USMMA was his #1 choice.

Not kidding. Now going through my second kid at KP (DD class of 2021) and the stress level for parents and kids alike just continues on until graduation.

Looking at your icon, is your DS a recruit for the baseball team?

G-man's mom, I think your DS and mine played baseball together in Annapolis. We are from Pennsylvania and his initials are TC. Small world.
