LOA

DD got a LOE dated 20 Aug. She saw that in her USMA app portal.

She then got a LOA dated 24 Aug via snail mail. By that date, she completed everything except SOE and essays. Letter says she has to get the SOE and essays submitted NLT 15 Oct or else her LOA will be pulled. She (nor I) didn't think a LOE followed by a LOA is possible.

She's qualified via DODMERB (showed qualified on 24 Aug on DODMERB website and 4 Sept on USMA portal). Presidential nom got to her file on 20 Aug.

DD will have a tough decision to make if she's fortunate enough to get an appointment to USAFA sometime in the next few months.

In the meantime, DD continues to work on Common App for "regular" schools. She just started that this past weekend, as she was so busy with SA and MoC nom apps.

When computer data, algorithms, delays in updating data, and some number of humans are involved in a process, then anything is possible....

No. LOAs can go out at any time. From personal experience, I can tell you they go out even in late April, couple days before National Decision Day. Someone probably has a story of an LOA going out even later.

hmm, that's weird my RC told us LOA's stop going out by the end of the month. Perhaps they have gotten incorrect information

Or perhaps they were trying to convince you not to worry about an LOA.

What @kinnem said. There’s a misguided preoccupation with LOAs on this forum, and it misses the point. The goal is an offer of appointment, nothing more and nothing less. An LOA is conditional and rare; an offer of appointment is (virtually) unconditional and not as rare.

Or, perhaps , things have changed this year and they won't offer LOAs after October. I guess we'll just have to see if anybody this year posts that they received one in November or later. Things are always changing.

I believe each RCs have their own authority in issuing LOAs because each districts have different competitivenesses. RCs have the region so the same RC can give LOA to one district and no LOA to another. At any time! LOAs can be issued anytime in the process. But understand more significant number are issued early in the process between Aug-Oct to lock in incent top candidates who are competitive to other SAs, Ivy, MIT, Stanford, etc. LOAs original intent was to compete for the same candidates applying to nation’s most competitive schools. Today it is still used for the same purpose but with more options.

What's an loa

I just answered your same question in another thread. You don’t have to post in more than one place; you will usually get an answer.

I see you asked about DODMERB in another thread. There is a DODMERB forum here on SAF.

There is a Search function for all forums. Very handy.

I recommend the Acronym List in the Community Information forum.

I got my LOA in August of last year, before I submitted my CFA videos. You generally receive one if you are in decent academic standing (High ACT/SAT scores). I had barely worked on my application before I received mine. I had participated in and received awards at SLE in the summer right after my junior year, and a few weeks later got an email and phone call telling me that I had a competitive application, and that I had a high chance of getting an LOA if I continued my application and submitted my ACT Scores. So I took submitted my ACT scores and got an LOA a few weeks afterwards, right before school started.

Similar here. Mine was marked the same day my various candidate histories and transcripts were processed, after ACT score was received. I haven’t submitted a CFA yet.
