LOA

Today, my portal showed a LOA, letter of assurance.
Congratulations Bizzy1013. Very exciting! What conditions need to be filled for you to receive an appointment?
I am not certain as of yet. It just updated this morning and no other communication has been sent. I have passed my CFA and qualified for DODMERB.

Sounds like all you need might be a nomination. That is sometimes a big hurdle, so make sure your members of Congress know you have a LOA. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have been working with my MOC very close and let them know as soon as I got this notification.

How long ago did you complete your application and CFA before they updated the system to show LOA?

Gator, I applied the first day it opened and pushed to complete all necessary paperwork required by USMMA. I was really early in the window.

For prospective students: I wish you all the very best. Getting a LOA is outstanding and the beginning of your dreams and aspirations. There is still much work to be done. You have only walked through the gates and many obstacles yet await for you to get through to see the ring on the other side. I write this to make sure you all understand that many of you will not make it through the rigors of this academy. Most of you have never failed at anything in life. There is a good chance that you will see failure at USMMA. It is not a normal school. It is fast paced, you are taking 4 years of university classes in 3 years. Your regimental life is your full time job. So basically, you are going to take up to 22 credit hours and work a full time job at the same time. It is meant to put you into the most stressful conditions just to see what you are made of. Go into this academy in the best mental and physical shape you can. Without either, you will most likely fail. I know you won't listen to your father, but I hope you listen to me. Take it from a dad who's daughter did not listen. I wish you all the best of luck, you trials have just begun. Go and conquer!

DD received LOA two weeks ago contingent on nomination. Today her portal shows “yes” to nomination, but still awaiting official confirmation from MOC. Very excited while cautionly optimistic.

@ClintH, how is your daughter doing? Is she coming back after a setback?

I believe >90% of the plebes who finish indoc make it through the year. You may fail temporarily, but you will only fail permanently if you give up on yourself.

The regiment is nobody's full time job other than the commandant's staff. There is no plebe taking 22 hours either. I think the max is like 19 plebe year. The majority of tri's are 16-18, one tri I only had 13.
But yeah, the academy is like a machine, you grind for a tri, pass the tri and then everything resets. After you put in enough tris you graduate.

additionally, the regiment and plebe system are much easier than they were in the past. There are no CTOs, there are no PKTs, there are no Tattoo sessions. You really cant blame the reg for failing out.

Some of the above information is not correct. Some companies still have regular tattoos (which are unanimously believed to be a big waste of time.) Number of credits varies depending on your major and what split you are. My DD has had regular 18-19 credit trimesters. And Plebes still have knowledge tests on Sunday evenings, though they are no longer called PKT's. My DS class of 2013 and DD class of 2021 have compared notes on their respective plebe years. Of course they both think theirs was the hardest ever. From a relatively unbiased mom point of view, some things are easier and some are harder. It all balances out. The biggest variable is which upperclassmen are in charge of your life as a plebe and how much they want to mess with you. Bottom line is that plebe year still sucks until recognition.
