...our DS received a USMA LoA for the class of 2024...LoA came in the mail yesterday! He is excited, honored and humbled by it. He still needs to have a medical waiver granted for his knee issue that is now resolved...so we are cautiously optimistic but also very thankful for the LoA!

Congratulations, good luck with the waiver!
Encourage your DS to keep hitting his marks as well as securing a Nomination.

Congrats to your DS!

Here's what my DD did when she got her LOA in late August 2018. At the time, she had already contacted her teachers in May to give them heads up she will be asking them for SOEs when she applies to USMA in the following fall. She got a Presidential nom in late July. She was medically qualified in late August. However, DODMERB was transitioning to a new system last summer/fall so the qualified exam in the DODMERB database didn't get to the Service Academies until early-mid Nov if I recall the timeline correctly.

The LOA said she had to get her essays and all 4 of her SOEs submitted by 15 Oct or else the LOA would go away. USMA had everything else in her file by that point (less the qualified exam and I think the FFR interview).

DD sent a very nice, friendly reminder email to her teachers around maybe mid-Sept (about 2-3 weeks after she got the LOA). In the message, she said she got an LOA which means a guaranteed appointment so long as she is medically qualified, has a nom, and completes her application. She said the LOA would go away on 15 Oct if the SOEs didn't get submitted. She finished her essays in late Sept. In the email, she mentioned she has a nom on file already and has been deemed medically qualified.

Sure enough. Her teachers were supportive of her. They finished the SOEs within 1- 1.5 weeks of sending that email - well before the 15 Oct deadline. I think it was her PE teacher who moved to a different school and he even did it within a couple days.

So your DS may do something similar to what my DD did and leverage the LOA to get the SOEs done sooner rather than later. My DD was (and still is as far as I can tell) well-liked in her HS so it seemed like everyone was rooting for her to get an appointment.

To this day, she remains in contact with her favorite teachers (all the SOE teachers are in that group) and gives periodic updates to them on how she's doing at West Point. They all wrote to her frequently during CBT.

Thnx! Yes, will definitely share LoA with the one outstanding eval that DS still needs!!

Congratulations! Recruited athlete, by any chance?

For anyone reading this an LOA is great. But...many people do not receive one. My son did not receive an LOA and received his acceptance in early march. Dont focus on thr LOA. Not getting one means nothing. My son is currently a cow.
