LOA's for Class of 2015

9:28...yeah i know its terrible

Your first priority should really be to get that run time down. Get started on a program ASAP and stick with it. I really don't think it's that hard to get a mile time down if you work at it. It's much easier to go from 9 minutes to 7 minutes, then it is from 7 minutes to 5 minutes....so you are at an advantage in that sense.

My mile time was terrible before I started preparing for the CFA (7:30). My ultimate goal was just to get it to 6:30 by Aug 21 (date I'm taking CFA). I've already reached the goal. So I'm aiming for 6:00 now. I really didn't even do that much. All I've been doing is one 3 mile run a week , and then running a fast mile before I lift and sometimes a mile after I lift (5X a week). Running comes pretty quickly to me.

If your problem is endurance...the ability to run a mile after pushups, situps, and pullups. What I would is something like this 3x a week.

Max set of situps
Max set of pullups (You can change the order of these)
Max set of pushups

One Mile run

Do this twice. Then after 3 weeks, you should be able to do it 3 times. Take 3-4 minutes of rest between each excercise. Make sure you are strict with this, don't sit and take a nap in between. Key is sticking it to it. Good luck!

Congratulations to those with an LOA, must feel pretty nice that you've got a pretty high chance of being at WP for class of 2015!

Just received an LOA from West point in the mail!!! As long as I am medically qualified and receive a nomination from a senator I'm accepted! I'm so happy all this hard work has paid off thank you God

Good luck to everyone else and hope to see you at Beast!

I just recieved my LOA in the mail today! Good luck to everyone else and hope to see you all in the class of 2015!

Do you need the CAR and SOE's to get an LOA?

You probably need the CAR submitted, but I only have my science and english SOEs currently filed and I still received an LOA. I still need my Math SOE, medical qualification and senator nomination to be accepted.

do you need transcripts in? i have everything in except those, and my english teacher SOE and my gym teacher is submitting my CFA scores. Based off of what people i have spoken to before said, i am very much in the running but havent received an LOA yet.... any possible reasons for this?

oh, i forgot to mention, my transcripts are being mailed out and faxed out right now, but am i too late to receive an LOA? just wondering......

people got LOA's all the way up to December last year. Also, transcripts are necessary to be considered for an LOA

So, when a candidate is notified from their MOC of a nomination, it will say which type? Normally, when a candidate states on this forum that he/she received a nomination, they could mean either of the three types Just A Mom listed and not necessarily a principle??? What do most MOC's do? PS...You're never "just" a Mom.

-Most MOCs don't rank their nominees but let the Academy select the best among the 10 (or 20) nominees.

-Which method your MOC actually uses you can call to find out.

-If you're nominated but not as a principle, the Academy can still admit you as long as you receive a nomination, which is the key. Your MOC simply won't get charged if you get in. But you still get a congratulations call from the MOC.

-How do you know she is not "just" a mon?

IWheel - Just giving a boast to all Moms. A Mom is never "just" a Mom - "just" implies something less than perfect, its like saying, "Your only a Mom???? Moms are so much more....

LOL this made me laugh:)

Well is there anyone here on the same boat as me... as in not receive an LOA or not hear anything about it? I know most get in without one and that I shouldn't be worrying, but it does kind of stink to be surrounded by the competitive "elite" :(

How many LOA's do they give out every year? I heard 500 before...

I thought the number was close to 1000...

Also, it really doesn't matter if you get an LoA or not, as long as you get an appointment. Really, if you get into West Point and you're going through Beast, the cadre's not going to care if you got an LoA, or if you were sport star, or a scholar, or anything awesome back in high school. To them, you are like everyone: the same lowly plebe. You basically start all over again.

Yes, the phrase "high school hero, West Point zero" exists for a reason. Don't sweat an LOA.

Each MOC is different. our MOC made it clear that he names a competitive slate. I would think that if a candidate is named a "Principle" nominee the MOC would make this clear. If he submits a ranked slate, you may or may not be told of your ranking.
when a candidate says they have a nomination - they have a nomination, not necessarily a principle nom.
The vast majority of MOC's use the competitive method. Principle nom's are relatively rare.

LOA - a LOA is a letter notifying the candidate that West Point will offer them an appointment provided they meet the conditions laid out in the letter.
LOA's can be issued anytime during the application process and are intended to inform and encourage the candidate.
If you don't get an LOA this summer don't despair. Just keep plugging along, apply for all nominations for which you are qualified, keep updating your application and keep retaking your SAT's. If you need a medical waiver, stay on top of that as well.

Peter and Scout Pilot are right - every summer New Cadets who won an LOA drop out of Beast. Getting an LOA is not the end, merely the beginning.

I know what it feels like to be in a competitive district. When I applied last year I did not get a nomination to West Point, all of those that did get the nomination got appointments; New Jersey 12 if you're wondering.

Congrats on the nomination, I would say that having that under your belt will give you the energy to do well on your next CFA. My advice to do well on the whole CFA is to actually administer the test on yourself at least once a week prior to the official date. Good Luck.

I'm in NJ-12 also!
