LOE (Soldier Candidate Process)

I remember receiving my LOE back in 2013. I did not receive an appointment that year. I remember feeling secure about my appointment, do not let it fool you. It does not guarantee anything, just finish your packet and keep on keeping on.

I kept on and received an appointment the following year. Just my 2 (3) cents but you got this Mike, I wish you the best.

Were you in need of a medical waiver or not meet the CFA requirements? I was told most LOE holders that do not get an appointment have another issue

I was qualified in every pillar, just didn't get selected that year.

I appreciate this info. Just curious what you improved that enabled you to get the appointment? Asking because I'm in your shoes (everything done and just waiting to hear)

@JCC Please make sure you do some research on the entire process. There are really two parts that are independent of each other. First you have to become qualified and then there must be a spot to slot you in based on your nomination source.

I believe I can clarify this as I am active duty and received an LOE and then an LOA.

First of all, there are roughly 120 slots reserved for active duty in each class. (About 10%) of the class. When I received my LOE in late August there were 876 active duty candidates.

An LOE means nothing. It is exactly what it sounds like. A Letter of Encouragement. They are encouraging you to apply but not making any commitment to you. An LOA on the other hand is a guarantee that a spot is reserved for you in the class and you will receive an appointment upon completion of your packet.

For active duty, all that is required to receive an LOA is test scores, transcripts, and commanders recommendation. My liaison informed me that I was likely to receive an LOA because of my current ranking among other active duty soldiers. Because I was in a hurry to find out (I’m working on other packets) and because I’m stationed overseas, I emailed him and straight up asked about it. He then sent me the pdf version and informed me my hard copy was on the way.

I was able to get my commanders reccomendation during early September so right now I'm working on my congressmen and senator. If I domt get an appointment its my understanding that I have to go to my commander to request the predatory school. Maybe you can confirm this.
No you do not have to get your commander to request prep school

I honestly could not tell you. I just reapplied. Went to college for a year, joined clubs, did ROTC, worked, and focused on self-improvement. I knew I would get in the second time but I still focused on maximizing my potential in case I didn't.
