LOE to LOA?

I recently received a LOE from WP and I barely started my application. Possible LOA if I finish my app and get a good CFA in?

Maybe. Maybe not.

LOE is a letter encouraging you to finish up. My DS’s friend got an LOE, no LOA and an appointment.

I also am an LOE recipient. I received my LOE during September and was able to attend my overnight visit this last weekend. After my overnight visit concluded, I was able to meet with an admissions officer. I had the same question as to whether or not I could possibly receive an LOA. His response was that it was very unlikely seeing as that I had already received an LOE. He said that West Point does not typically send both. He did say that receiving either an LOA or an LOE is something to be proud of and it is a good sign. Best of Luck.

It’s possible but the thing is no one knows the magic formula for getting that LOA.

You could get an LOA after a good CFA- in combination with the rest of your file, of course. On the other hand, it’s very possible you won’t get a LOA after a good CFA. No one in admissions is willing to say who gets or who doesn’t get a LOA.

My DD got a LOE in mid-August 2018. She then got a LOA in late August. The only thing new USMA got between the LOE and LOA was her official HS transcript. At that point, the only missing items in her app were all her SOEs and essays.

So to answer your question directly, with few exceptions, anything is possible when it comes to the SA admissions process.

Good luck on getting an appointment. An appointment is what you want- not a LOA.

how did you enjoy your visit? My DS is going to do his in January.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I never had interest in the other academies but I am 100% positive now that I want to attend West Point. I went to 7 classes over the two days that I was there and all of the teachers were exceptional. I have always heard that West Point has small class sizes and while I was there, the largest class that I was in was a French class with 13 students. I completely agree with GoCubbies, an appointment is what matters. I highly recommend meeting with the admissions officer after your son's visit. I had to wait about an hour before I could meet with him, but the wait was completely worth it.

Thanks for that feedback @ILUSMA and good luck with the appointment!
We went up there this past summer and met with admissions, and the NJ field force is really fantastic, but he'll definitely attend some classes and meet with admissions as well.
He's not applying to other SA's either. It's USMA or AROTC for him!

This is not at all true.
A LOE is very good. It is allowing you to have an overnight visit. A1 janitor has a child at navy not usma. Go to the over night visit if at all possible. You are on a very small and coveted list to have an LOE. Usma invites very few candidates for the over night visits.

“I recently received a LOE from WP and I barely started my application. Possible LOA if I finish my app and get a good CFA in?”

I read the question as “is it possible OP will get an LOA if CFA is good”?

My answer was maybe you will get an LOA, maybe you won’t.

I then said my DS (at USNA) has a friend (in his high school class) that received an LOE (Letter Of Encouragement) from WP, who did not receive an LOA (letter of assurance), but is a cadet at West Point.

I am not sure which part I got wrong. Yes the LOE is a very good sign (as it was in my son’s friend’s case). My answer of maybe/maybe not was not answering if it was good to get or not.

FWIW My son’s friend did go on the overnight visit to WP - I agree with you that a candidate should do this.
