-Anyone have details or numbers or percentages out there regarding the applicants with a LOE that eventually receive an appointment?
LOE (Letter Of Encouragement from the Director of Admissions. In essence ..“We like your pkg thus far …turn everything in quickly and you’ll possibly be an excellent cadet etc etc etc.)
-How many don’t get that appointment?

Also, do they all get the Appointment if they have fulfilled everything required and Including a Congressional Nom?

Thx for any thoughts .

The only people that have those numbers are admissions. What I do know is that it is not an LOA and you are not guaranteed an appointment if you fully complete your file and are fully qualified.

As I tell my students, just like an LOE or LOA, this letter (let's call it a 'letter of interest') provides a strong indication that you are very competitive and that the 'AF Academy likes you' very much. The LOI is intended to encourage you to complete the entire application process as soon as you can.

I recommend that you take an 'inventory' of the actions that remain with your application and put a plan in place to complete them soon as you can. If all is done, then best of luck to you!

Also, LOI-use was drastically different this year with Col. Pipes taking over as the director of admissions. We don't have any history to compare. My ds is hoping it means something!

99Gold, can you expound on what was drastically different of the use of the LOi?

Thanks!🙏

My DS also received an LOE back in October and we've had all boxes checked since November with his nomination...just crossing our fingers at this point.

They sent a lot more of them out this year than my oldest ds’s application cycle. Col. Pipes said that it was one of the changes she made this year at a dinner I attended.
In many of your responses you refer to an LOI - never heard of it. Is it the same as an LOE and you are just using a different term or is that what USAFA actually called it in the communication they sent to you? Thank you for the information.

An LOI is a Letter of Interest which is what USAFA calls the letter my son received as have others here on the forum. It is not an LOA. An LOE (Letter of Encouragement) is a letter USMA sends out to some candidates. The main difference is that an LOE offers a candidate an overnight visit (an LOI does not) and the LOI identifies a due date which is often sooner than the candidate kit deadline.

Ok. I need to change the title of this feed to LOI from LOE because I’m talking about the letter from Col. Pipes. I’ve been lurking on this site for quite a while and your concise description Is finally a breath of fresh air regarding these two (Loi vs. Loe). This is an AF info board. We’ve been using LOE everywhere on here and LOE is regarding Army not AF. And nobody on here has made this distinction.
Thanks for Un-confusing us 99Gold!!

I don't think changing the thread title is a big deal. People know what you mean. USAFA hasn't used LOIs as much in the past, but USMA has used LOEs a lot so that is why people are more likely to call it an LOE. Col. Pipes changed that this year.
