I have just checked my portal and received a message from USAFA with an LOI letter. Anyone else?

LOA is essentially a guaranteed appointment IF fully qualified with a nomination. LOI is an encouragement letter.

What does the letter say that made you think it is LOI? My son just got one too and it starts with "Congratulations! Based on an initial review of ......., the office of Admissions believes you have the potential to be a successful cadet at USAFA"....What does this mean? Is it LOI?

One just appeared in my ds’s portal as well. Just to temper expectations, my ds also got one last year. He was fully qualified with a nomination and did not receive an appointment.
May I know what your LOI looks like? Thank you!

The LOI is a 'way' to encourage you to finish the process of applying. Admissions 'sees' some great stuff so far, so keep it going. As noted by @99Gold, LOI's are sent to a number of candidates, and a good number of them may not earn an appointment. But, I think you should be positive and complete the application as soon as you can. Several of my students have them in hand now.

By the way, the LOI starts with the sentence noted by @NPFAM -- "Congratulations! Based on an initial review of . . . , the office of Admissions believes you have the potential to be a successful cadet at the United States Air Force Academy." Good luck to all that received an LOI!

Is it possible to get a LOI if you're already at 100% completion? I'm assuming not, because there's nothing left to 'complete'

My DS just received LOI today from USAFA and his portal is complete other than DODMERB (under review) and awaiting his ALO interview.

LOI (interest) and LOE (encouragement) types of communications are sent out at various times in the cycle to goose along candidates who appear to be acceptable, get them to finish their applications. No one wants that surge of still-sweaty-from-CFA applications slithering in on the eve of the application deadline.

It is also good marketing engagement. Everyone likes to feel seen and wanted.

May I kindly ask about your academic qualifications, if it’s not too much trouble? Could you share your SAT score and GPA?

OK, I found my answer from this link. Thanks
This web site misinterprets admission vs. being a successful cadet. The LOI indicates that USAFA is interested in you and thinks you can be a successful cadet. There are many individuals who can be a successful cadet but only limited space at USAFA.

There are many factors that Admissions doesn't know at this point that would make you "very competitive" in the Admissions process. First, they don't know your relative standing in your Congressional nominating category. That's because 1. You may not have a nomination yet, nominations are not in, and all those nominated have not completed files. 2. They don't know your relative competitiveness in the
"national pool". That's because your file is not complete. Knowing your competitiveness depends first and foremost on completing your file. You can control this!!! Second it depends on others completing thier files and finally it depends on what nominations you receive and when the congressional office submits those nominations to USAFA (deadline for offices to submit is 31 Jan). It is possible that shortly after you complete your file that you could get a LOA if you are competitive in the national pool. Otherwise, USAFA has to wait until the nominations are in and others in your nominating category have completed thier files.

So my advice is two fold. 1. Complete your file. Admissions wants to make early offers to those who are competitive in the overall candidate pool. they can't do that until your file is complete. 2. Apply to all nomination sources for which you are eligible. It could be that you don't get an early offer, but you are competitive in your nominating category. In that case you will likely not hear from USAFA until mid-March.

I received one yesterday! It seems like it's a positive indication of how competitive we are in relation to this year's applicants.
