For inquiring minds, my DS received his appointment notification In Bear's Den 11/25/2022 and he received his BFE in the mail yesterday(Ohio 12/19). When he clicked accept, there was a notice it would be 10-14 days. So hold on, if you haven't received yours yet. They just started releasing them in small batches.

Yes! My daughter's arrived on Monday. It's BY FAR the most impressive package of any school she was accepted!

We signed the docs and they went out in the mail this morning. Felt a little unsettling having to mail original copies of birth certificate and SS card, but I suppose it's all part of it!

My son is a swimmer water polo player in cbus. Where part of the state are you?

HI there - Our DS had a call 2 weeks ago letting him know he was accepted and has his acceptance in the portal pending DODMERB.
Medical and Eye appts. were only this past week so we likey won't have that approval for awhile. Does that mean he will be pending and will not receive the BFE by 12/24? What are your alls thought? Mahalo, orginally from Hawaii and now Kansas

Congratulations!! I believe you won’t receive it until he clears Dodmerb!

Once he gets medically qualified, the letter in his portal will update to a full appointment. In the letter, there will be a link to a basic form where he can accept or decline. If you click accept, that will trigger the big fat envelope to be mailed.
So you are correct, no BFE for a bit.

Good luck!!

Has anyone else had BFE movement in the full appointment EA pool? Just curious because I know the holidays likely delayed the 10-14 day timeline.

(working timeline backwards) My DS received his in the mail 12/19/2022.Superintendent date on the letter in the BFE was 12/15/2022. Portal was updated of acceptance 11/25/2022.He received the phone call from his swim coach of the acceptance back on 11/22/2022.So it was about 4 weeks.

In order to receive the BFE do you have to accept the appointment? I know some previous candidates who’ve received their BFE despite declining their appointment.

My cadet received his BFE with his appointment in it before he accepted. He had to ask for it somehow in his Bears Den.

There’s a link in the appointment letter in Bears Den that is like a “soft” accept. You can decline in that link as well, but if you accept, it triggers the BFE.
In the BFE, there’s paperwork for the official acceptance and also a form to send if you choose to decline.

DS accepted appointment through Bears Den on 1/23/23 & received his BFE on 1/29/23.
Congratulations! Welcome to the Coast Guard Family!
There will be a Class of 2027 Parent Facebook page that will come out for parents to connect. It is not an official Coast Guard Academy information or is it affiliated with the CGA Parents Association or Alumni Association. Its specifically for PARENTS of cadets or appointees who are a part of the class of 2027. My memory is fuzzy when that happens but maybe you will be informed by late spring I think.

It does not appear that there is a parents page for Class of 2027 yet, but if you are a student with an appointment (and actually have a facebook account) search for Coast Guard Academy Class of 2027, and there is a page. Parents can join the official CGA Parents page after the appointment has been accepted.

I believe that 2027 parents won't be admitted to the 2027 Parents FB page until their child has accepted their appointment. This is the main way that USCGA will use to get information out to parents so you want to join. I believe that your child should get instructions to join the 2027 USCGA page (for the students...not parents) when they accept their appointment and get their BFE with all their paperwork, and at some point there are instructions for the parents to join the 2027 parents page.

The main USCGA Parents Association FB page will start admitting parents of 2027 soon-to-be-swabs who have accepted their appointment after spring break.

In the meantime, 2027 parents can follow "pduddy pics" (who takes photos of cadets on campus almost every day), "US Coast Guard Academy", "US Coast Guard Academy Athletics", "US Coast Guard Academy FAMILIES", and any of the other pages dedicated to the various athletic teams or clubs. USCGA also has Instagram pages.

All students being offered appointments are invited to join the 2027 USCGA Students Facebook group. I’ve received a conditional appointment until I can get a medical waiver and my letter asked me to join the group as well.

The Parents class of 2027 page can be joined by any parents of appointees. The official CGA parents page can be joined after the appointment is accepted. The nice thing about the class page, is that it allows you to ask questions among the other parents going through the same things you are, and the moderators are experienced parents. The admiral is also not on the class page :) , but he is on the official parents page. Search FB for uscga parents class of 2027 to find the class parents page.

Not only is the Admiral on the Parents Association page (and posts regularly) but there is a statement that anything you post can be shared with the entire Academy. Zero confidentiality there. I have nothing but respect for Admiral Kelly, but having them there doesn’t make for a relaxed environment for the parents to ask questions or state concerns. It would be nice if there was a parent page for all classes where we can connect, give advice, compare notes etc. Something that wasn’t closely monitored and censored for official members of the academy; just a casual group of parents who want to share experiences. I know a couple of parents were talking about making a new FB group like this. I don’t know if they ever did. The class pages have a couple of moderators, so although experienced, you're getting a very, very small point of view. Also, the moderators have taken information posted on the pages and shared it without permission for the parents posting. Something the 2027 parents should keep in mind when posting there this summer.

The reason the statement, "Please do not share private or personal information you do not want shared with the greater USCGA community" is on the main USCGA Parents Association page is simply because it you post something, it can be seen by all members of the group. Admiral Kelly isn't going to care if you post a question or comment on the page. He does post periodically (not very often), but he is not usually answering questions or responding to posts. Personally, I wouldn't be against a separate FB page like you are suggesting, but I also don't think that parents need to be overly concerned about posting on the main Parents FB page.

The FB Parents page for your particular year is a good place to get to know other parents from your cadet's class year. It is a place where you can ask lots of questions, no matter how small they seem, but @CA946 is correct that you are getting the opinion of just the few moderators. The general advice should still be good though if you are mostly just asking for factual information. My suggestion, if you end up feeling like you want another point of view, is to post to the main Parents Association page or to reach out to some of the admins from that page directly or to some of the parents who have answered questions on topics you care about.
