I would like to buy a watch for my DS for the Naval Academy? Could anyone recommend a good one? I have a few questions...analogue or digital? Any features important to have at the academy. Also, will it matter what kind of watch he will wear with his different uniforms?

DS wont need a watch for plebe summer, but my DS received this as a high school graduation gift and I brought it to him at parents weekend:

casio G-Shock mudman, water and mud resistant...and proven to be ultimate frisbee resistant, too!

Casio mudman

They can't tell time on Analogue if my kids are any example. Patek Phillippe would be a great choice. Kidding. Casio waterproof Analogue stainless diver's watch will withstand almost anything and cheap at Sports Authority. Mudman is very good also for digital and alarms. Divers watch has a great LED you can almost use as a flashlight in the dark.

There a lot of good ones, but I like the Luminox "Navy Seal" watches. They have a Swiss Quartz movement, are waterproof to way deeper than most people will need and are cool to boot. They are the same watches our Navy Seals wear. There are several styles and colors to choose from. I've worn them for 15 years and they keep perfect time.

Personal opinion -- a Timex or equivalent is just fine. I wouldn't buy something expensive for two reasons: (1) it could get lost, and (2) it could easily get damaged. An expensive watch is one more thing your mid has to "take care of." If something happens to the cheap one, buying another is no big deal.

Check Sports Authority. They have some great shock resistant and waterproof watches for a comparatively cheap price (analogue or digital waterproof to 200 meters). Buy the good one later. As 1985 said cheap and strong for Summer.

He'll like it, thats the one I was going to recommend too, my son (now a youngster) has it, he got it for Christmas his senior year of HS. You just reminded me that I should problably get a watch for my Daughter too!

Great Watch Gift

DS requested this as his HS graduation gift four years ago...he still raves about the look, feel and operation of this great watch...it's available on Amazon, of course.
