I know it may depend on what items are needed, I also know that my daughter will need a lot of new things and will need some new sizes this spring. But I am just looking for ball park figure of total cost as I would like to purchase them for a graduation present and will need a few months to save up.

It makes a difference if she is Navy Option or Marine Option. Navy options can continue to use their dress blues and I think they take their BDUs with them, although more will be needed. Marine Options need to buy new dress blues and Service alphas, which can run a few thousand dollars.

Someone who has been thru it can provide more specifics for Navy options.

Thank you, she is Navy Option, and due to changes in size, she will need new dress uniforms and khakis, the BDU's are still good though

Good news, I have provided a link below to the Navy Exchange Uniform Shop Online, where you can shop by Service, rank, gender, etc. Bad news, unless you are eligible as an authorized shopper, you cannot log in and see the prices.
Your daughter, of course, can establish a log-in based on her SSN in the DEERS system.

Assuming she is in NROTC because of which forum we are in, she will already have some uniform items. Some will be able to “go to the Fleet” with some re-striping or re-outfitting, some may not, some may be too worn, some may be relegated to “second best.”

This is something you will have to work as a team with your daughter to build a list. Much will also depend on where she is going after commissioning, straight to sea on a ship or to a training pipeline, and which one. The Uniform Regs tell her what she needs for required uniform items, but not necessarily how many.

If you have family members planning to give her commissioning/graduation gifts, you may want to suggest cash or let Grandpa and Grandma buy her a new Officer cover or give the cash equivalent, and so forth. There will be dress uniforms, working uniforms, hats, belts, shoes, insignia. Unrelated but one of my best gifts from my own commissioning - new luggage, sturdy and well-made.

Sword and sword belt: Expensive and not a required uniform item until she is a few ranks more senior. No need to get that now.

My SWAG: $2000-$5000. That is truly a SWAG, and with luck, others will chime in with more accurate projections.

Thank you so much! I know she can log in and show everything to me, but I was just trying to figure out the $$$ between xmas and grad gifts for her. ;) Now I know to put more money aside than I first thought.

Good reminder above. Officers typically get it once. With a little digging in the DFAS pay tables, DD should be able to find the 2021 amount. I’d guesstimate $1000-$1500.

@Montana State Army ROTC is correct I believe, that as ROTC graduating members they will be issued a limited set of uniforms when they graduate or shortly after. I know to buy "official" issue uniforms you need a CAC AD ID Card, and parents or relatives CANNOT purchase items. I know because we tried to buy our son OCP ACU's he wanted for XMAS, but we ended up having to take him to the Exchange and HE had to show ID and use his credit card in his name. The Services have become pretty strict with this type of purchase due to misuse. If you want to get them for her as a graduation gift, she will have to purchase, but you can give her a check as a present. She likely will not be able to purchase them herself until she has an AD ID card. Our son in NROTC cannot purchase "extra" uniforms or what he will need post graduation until he is issued his AD ID Card.

DS university had Abbott onsite for measurements and option to buy uniform package...think it was under $2k with payment plan...order goes in in January.

Thanks all for the good info! As always, the information is useful and appreciated!
