Dd has FS and likes NMMI because it's elevation is closer to usafa . We live in NY state and would greatly appreciate info from someone that has been there. Thanks

Ok, it's been 4 days.. must be nobody has been there. I will take any info about NMMI. Thanks
There is a possibility that folks who would have such info are not logged in at this time. You may want to just type "NMMI' in the search box. There are a few threads available for viewing.

Is elevation honestly a consideration? I have never heard that, at all; in deciding between two schools. My DS attended Marion and had a close friend attend USAFA afterwords. We are still friends with his parents and that never came up as an obstacle of any kind.

Pick the one you like the most, for sure. Just not sure elevation is something about which to be concerned.

I guess DD has made up her mind. She likes the military structure, and it has a flight club to learn to fly. It doesn't bother her there is a golf course next door and skiing is less than 2 hrs away. Thanks for input. :)

Check out past thread from October 7, 2019 on NMMI- some good input-place did wonders for my daughter, now a mid at USMMA.

I am a cadet at NMMI and recently have been appointed to USMMA. NMMI is tough but it is a great school to prep anybody for an academy. The service academy adviser at NMMI truly cares about the success of his cadets and wants to see them succeed. You get what you put into NMMI so if you decide to attend, do your best, volunteer for leadership positions, and give it your all and the academy of your choice will likely appoint you.

Thanks for info and congratulations on your appointment to USMMA. Would you happen to know how many falcon scholars are there this yr?

I am from Northern New Mexico. NMMI has a great reputation and I would agree with "BradleyD4". Not sure the similar elevation will help or hurt much? The HUGE difference is Roswell is hot, dry and arid from about March to November. USAFA, near "The Springs", is cold to very cold from October to May with a lot more rain and snow.

In the end your DD will adapt to both places, one way or the other. NMMI is a very good launching board to a future career as an officer or even enlisted to officer. A great friend of mine went to NMMI, then enlisted and later commissioned as Marine and retired as a LTC.

NMMI is a SOLID plan B to work toward her Plan A (USAFA)!!

GOOD LUCK!

Could you pm me?

Most prepsters for USMMA go to NMMI. The word from those I know is that the heat sucks and there is not much to do in Roswell, but the academics are good and support is there for those who aspire to an academy.

The good thing about NMMI is that you won’t be walking around Roswell very often. The friends and bonds you make at NMMI are definitely one of the best parts. However, as a prep everyone should be expecting some tough classes but just go for it and go in for help when you need it.

The elevation and PT at NMMI will definitely help increase your ability to perform at USAFA at their very high elevation. The more long distance runs the better your body can handle it.
