Looks like an uptick in the number of parents joining the 2028 Parent Group

That indicates a larger number of appointments this week.

Parents/Guardians - you can join the group by searching for usafa2028parents on Facebook.

This is a support group for parents/guardians only. No cadets. No girl/boyfriends. No sibling, aunts, uncles, etc. Parents/guardians only.

NOTE: I promised another SAF member I would post this if I saw an increase.

I appreciate it!!

So are we thinking a mass of appointments has actually gone out like has been speculated over the last week or so?

are you an admin? are you saying there are more who have requested to join? The number of members seems to have stayed flat at 154. That seems like a very small subset. How much of an increase was there?

I am an admin for the Parent Facebook group, yes. We have several requests in queue. More than in previous weeks. There's always a lag. I have approved 4 today with more in queue -- 8 in the last hour. We vet every single join request & that takes a little time.

I am not saying for sure that the big drop has happened, only that the number of join requests have jumped. I have no insight into what admissions is thinking.

A shoutout to the class Facebook pages. Great source of information, communication, commiserating, etc. Very well moderated, not anonymous. Highly recommend.
Yes and know.

This site is better.

The FB pages for all the academies' parents groups, appointee groups, and regional groups are terrific. Plus it's always good seeing pics of the new appointees and the joy and excitement on their faces.

Depends what you're looking for.

I read both. They each have their purposes and are not at cross purposes. The FB pages is more of a parent support page. Not for cadets, candidates, nor appointees.
I agree.

But I am on a parent fb page.

Lots of parents complaining about stuff. Lots of bragging.

For instance - When my son was at USNA - parents were complaining about meals being served. Really? It seemed silly to me.

Agree. The FB pages are much more supportive, whereas here it seems some people are determined to just argue, bicker, and disagree. Some people here will argue for arguments sake and disagree if you say the sky is blue.

Just my experience.

Indeed. There are always groups that will complain about things that seem silly, but we do not judge. The stress is real for parents, so the goal is to help calm fears, inform, and support. That is perfect for some and not so much for others. You have to remember that the vast majority of parents have no experience with the military except for what they see in movies and tv. Arguable not very good sources.

Reasonable complaints are fine -- rumors are quashed.
Admins will answer questions privately through Messenger.
Mom & Dad brags are not discouraged. Why? Because parents have every right to be proud of their cadet. We have chats by squadron, so that's where they share pictures and brags.

Anyway, the FB page isn't for everyone. So long as you are part of a Parent Club (state or regional) you will get information that is posted on the FB page by USAFA Parent Liaison Team and the AOG.

I am not military.

My son is an ensign in the Navy.

He was a boy when I walked him to iday. He became a man at plebe summer.

We laughed together throughout. He did well at USNA and is doing well in the navy.

I am as close to him now as I was when he entered. His struggles were his. My advice was ignored. Someday he might listen to me. ;)

He is living a great life. He only applied to USNA and he knows he picked well. His future is bright - whether he stays in the military or moves on.

My only other child picked well too. One year away from a doctorate. Huge struggles throughout her life. Proud of them equally.
