Hi all,
With USNA rejecting me the West Point situation looking very bleak, I am proud and excited to say that it looks like I'll be in Lexington!
I will be an officer in the US Army at the end of this journey. I will do whatever it takes to get there. Now, I have grown up under the assumption that I'd be a Marine officer and I foolishly only applied for the NROTC MO scholarship and not the AROTC one. Now I'm looking at $45,000+ a year for an out of state cadet at VMI, I need all of the financial aid I can get. I plan on applying for a 3.5 or 3 year AROTC scholarship while at VMI and will fight like hell to get it but realize that it is a very competitive process.
I need solid aid and one of the ways I know you can get it is through the Simultaneous Membership Program. I had a few questions about this program though.
1. Can I get in state tuition?
2. When would I go to basic training?
3. Can I still get the ROTC scholarship while in SMP?
4. Is it worth it? Or should I just focus on getting the scholarship or contracting?
This brings me to my next topic; contracting without a scholarship.
1. When is the earliest I can contract?
2. What are the requirements?
3. What are the financial aid benefits in contracting? Any?
I want to thank this forum again for the help is has provided me over the last year or so. I am so close to my dream I can taste it. Thanks.
