Maersk Alabama Hijacked by Pirates

As for MARSOC sending your son info….well he has been to PLC once right? If so, then two things have happened. 1) He expressed interest and 2) he showed ability. Hence why they will send him some info and see where it goes.

Nope, PLC juniors (1st 6 week session @ Qtown for College juniors) He thinks someone at his OSO sent in prospect's names.

The Puddle Pirate jab goes back almost a year on this forum. Wanted to see if LITS's sense of humor had improved! It has!

I think Zap wanted to be anywhere but Surface Navy. He use to want to be a bubblehead! Still trying to figure out why my son, from a good Navy family, wants to miss three squares and a rack to play in the woods (sand) and eat MRE's! Help me understand Gunner!

Ah, yes. That was truly my utmost desire back then. My own stupidity that I didn't get it. Perhaps someday the Lord will sit me in a movie theater and play how my life would have turned out if I'd gone nuke. Oh, well. Spilled milk, and all that jazz.

Did you drop him on his head at some point?

A U.S. official said the crew had retaken control and had one pirate in custody.
"The crew is back in control of the ship," a U.S. official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak on the record. "It's reported that one pirate is on board under crew control — the other three were trying to flee."
Pirates 'in the water'
The status of the other pirates was unknown, the official said, but they were reported to "be in the water."
Another U.S. official, citing a readout from an interagency conference call, said: "Multiple reliable sources are now reporting that the Maersk Alabama is now under control of the U.S. crew."

Now that's badass. I hope it's true.

My understanding is in the other hijackings - the comanies have paid the ransom not the government.

Satire - eh, Zap?

If true......i bet it hurt like hell when they hit the water!

I hope it hurt WORSE than hell! LOL God I hope they you tubed it if they pitched 'em overboard! I'd just feel cheated if they jumped. I'm just elated that the crew won the day with no one hurt. Fracking pirates don't count.

YAY for Mass Maritime grads! Deservin' of some rum after that little episode.

How? They reported one pirate was tied up and three were in the water.

This will get more interesting as the full story comes out.

CNN says that the crew captured a pirate, and the captain was taken. When the two groups arranged an exchange, the pirates didn't keep their end of the exchange, and this is why the captain is till being held. They're going to keep the pirates onboard until a coalition ship arrives.

This could get action.

Wonder what the pirates are thinking this morning seeing the Navy watching them through binoculars...... I know what I'd be doing. Wetting myself then handin' over that Captain. These are some seriously stupid pirates.

The press got a little wild with their reporting of facts yesterday yes?
I went up, down, up then down again. This is such a terrible & anxious situation. :frown:

The situation is continuing to unfold.

This morning on the new I heard that Maersk did not ask for nor want the US Navy to intercede. They claim they were in the process of negotiating with the pirates when the crew overpowered them spoiling the negotiations.
It appears the shipping company is still negotiating.

The problem with accurate reporting is that Maersk has been fairly silent and the only information the press is getting is second hand from quick phone calls from the crew.
This is clearly unfolding and hopefully will be resolved shortly.

We might have to wait for the made-for-tv movie to find out the whole story.

Certainly would be an interesting movie....

Maybe I'll just watch Speed 2 for now.

MMA NEWS!!

Hey everyone. For those who don't know me. i am a 3/c cadet at MMA and with all this pirate news, MMA is all over the news. We had national and international TV crews here at the academy and they filmed our morning formation. be sure to keep a look out!

Send the Marines or Navy SEALS.

"To the shores of Tripoli."

Ring a bell?

Jefferson sent the Marines off the coast of Africa for some of the same reasons we see today.

There are a few Marines that would still remember Somalia.

Shipboard operations would not be appropriate for Marines, however. They like ships even less than sailors.

I was on the USS IWO JIMA for a day off of Greece about 4 months ago...and I can say, those Marines were ready to get off of that ship and do what they're paid to do. Without fail "get me off this ship".
