Hey literally no one in my company did a MAGTF so wondering if I can get an answer here. I (plebe) got drafted for a MAGTF this summer and saw something about a screener that we do after finals? Anyone have a gouge on this?

Screener is a 1 day fitness test, think of a lot of things done over plebe summer...

Lots of good info on USNA.edu just search for MAGTF
per the above... The screener consists of a half day evolution that incorporates squad sized movements under load, tests of physical strength and endurance, timed runs through both the obstacle and endurance courses, and marksmanship with the M-4 service rifle.

MAGTF is comprised of two phases. The first phase, known as the "Screener," takes place at USNA following final exams. During this phase, Midshipmen conduct all physical fitness tests and a battery of leadership exercises.

The second phase is marked by Midshipmen deploying to an Operational Force (OPFOR) within a Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) or Marine Special Operations Battalion (MSOB). During the 4-week deployment phase, Midshipmen are sponsored by Company Grade Marine Corps Officers. Midshipmen will work alongside their sponsors and actively participate within the scope of the duties and responsibilities expected of a newly commissioned Company Grade Officer.

Visit the Summer Training to learn more about MAGTF.

Historically, MAGTF was a summer training that anyone could do. I did it and had to do nothing but put it as an option for summer trainings. Contrary to Leatherneck, it focused on life in the Fleet Marine Force vice TBS. Unless things have changed, you might be thinking of the Marine Special Opportunities (MARSOT) screener. You had to do it to go to trainings such as Army Air Assault and Airborne and other more niche USMC trainings (I thin Mountain Warfare School was an option).

... ??? I don't understand this at all.
You're a Plebe now, C/O 2027. So then you are referring to this upcoming Summer Cruise which is your 3/C Midshipmen (Indoctrination) Professional Training of Midshipmen (PROTRAMID). If you're a rising 3/C going to PROTRAMID this summer, then there's no way you will be in MAGTF... missing out on subs, surface, and pilot.
---------
I'm reading now the USNAINST 1530.1G (20 Mar 2023) - USNA Midshipmen Summer Training Program.

Paragraph 7.b.(1)(a). 3/C Midshipmen (Indoctrination). Approximately one week is spent with each community: aviation, surface warfare, submarine, Marine Corps.

Paragraph 7.b.(1)(c). 1/C Midshipmen (Immersion). Midshipmen desiring to be assigned as a Marine must attend Leatherneck or, under extenuating circumstances, MAGTF training. Note. MAGTF will only be considered a cruise when there is a shortage of of traditional options. This determination will be made by the Deputy Commandant for Professional Development.

Okay, thank you. I read something on the website that said they had a screener post-finals, but found that surprising because all of the plebes in my company that were selected for MAGTF got drafted (we didn't rank it at all on our preferences,) so doesn't seem like the group that would put out at a screener

^ Exactly.... all I can imagine is some Pleber getting and acting on bad gouge. Is the 6th basic response "Uh sir, I read it online " now ?
I so wanted to reply with “Who’s your squad leader? Have them call me! Better yet, bring me a Form 2! Shove off!”

There is just a Form 1 now (You check Positive or Negative). Plus, if you told a Plebe to shove off, you'd probably get a confused look from the Plebe. It has fallen out of the Academy vernacular outside of the canned last chow call "I am now shoving off, you now have 5/7 minutes, sir!"

It could be a thing now since they switched PROTRAMID around and the MARDET might be trying to identify top candidates early. The reason being that it is probably the least advertised USMC training. Leatherneck gets a lot of attention because its mandatory (outside of unique circumstances) for USMC aspirants and MARSOT trainings are pretty cool and competitive. Word to the wise: don't put broad labels like that on people. Just because people got drafted for a training doesn't mean they aren't competent or capable of things. Someone in that group might crush the SEAL or EOD screener down the road. Throughout your time at USNA, you will see incredible success stories and you will the hubris get the best of people. Development isn't necessarily linear.
