Mail During Indoc

There is no such thing as too much mail. Have everyone send mail. It takes 4-5 days for them to receive it. And at times there are days that they do not get mail so it piles up. It is good to be the one with the most mail. And just a word of warning about the services that send mail from email, I have seen numerous complaints that it is not sent timely or bundled and sent a couple days later etc. I never used them but there were a number of complaining and frustrating posts in prior year's facebook page about it. And, nothing beats a handwritten note. Even a comic or a picture that you can send and sign your name means much more than some service sending it. These plebe candidates will be under stress and freaking out. A little love will help. And finally do not send any cookies. Cookies and everything else is contraband and they will not get to eat it. Everyone else might but they won't. Lol.

I heard the same but Project Write2Them was super quick in getting to KP. Average was around 2-3 days from time of letter/email written until PC received it. It was easy to do a combination of snail mail handwritten and the Write2Them mail. My 2021 appreciated all the mail and said it picked up his spirits and gave him a much needed laugh at times. I would send funny comics and such just to lighten the mood.

Based on the feedback from our DS (2021), cards and letters are great during Indoc. They really look forward to the encouragement from back home while they're grinding it out. Packages, especially any type of snack or treat, are a good way to get put "on your face". DS told a story of a plebe who received candy and snacks from home. The DI's opened the package in front of her, and they all ate whatever was in the box, while the plebes did pushups the entire time. And don't expect much mail in return. Our plebe wrote to us once or twice during Indoc. Had to write in the bathroom stall, since they couldn't turn the lights on in the room. It looked very much like a ransom note....

Not sure if you have a DD or DS and not sure where you live - big city or rural...but if you can send the local newspaper...if it is from a big city with a major league team, your DD/DS will be a hero with the others who follow sports/baseball...I still have a picture of my plebe that shows him with the sports page and about 10+ other plebes sitting around him on the floor looking at what their favorite team/player(s) did and what the standings were along with any other sport - NASCAR or pro/college football summer practice etc. I sent the entire paper so they could see what was going on in the world in general.

We also sent letters - packages not so much. Much of it depends on their company leadership - some are great others not so much and some of this also depends on the plebe candidates themselves - if you have a bunch of class clowns the company leadership could be harder on them with extra fun - like extra PT/marching/other at night when the plebe candidates need to do other things like study and sleep...fun fun fun.

Best of luck to you and your new plebe candidate.

Never too much mail during Indoc. Write often and get family and friends to do the same. Your Mid will need all the encouragement he/she can get.

Sigh...2020, If someone had sent me a newspaper during indoc they probably would've ripped it up in front of me and destroyed my room.
