Ok so I have received my address in the letter stating my company, platoon, and address. My question is when will I find out my P. O. box number because everywhere I have read says without the P.O. box number the packages and letters cannot be delivered. Maybe I misread

Your PO Box number uses your Alpha code that you get on I-Day. The Po Box address isn't used until after plebe summer...

I believe the letter states "Beginning 1 July, your midshipman may receive mail at the following address: " Then is gives the proper address.

You will get your P.O.Box assignment toward the end of plebe summer and the Company and Platoon will no longer be needed. This info was in the letter we got that had our son's address in it for the admin. office.

So if I give out that address from that letter all letters and packages will be able to be received? My mom and I are wanting to clarify before I email it to friends and family

I believe so. I just sent out an e-mail to freinds and family with the mailing info and it should get there.

Your PO Box number is not your alpha code - Your email address will be malphacode.edu

ok sorry to bump this but I didn't see the need to start another thread in these rough economic times. I've read in various locations that only the care packages are opened by the cadre but now I'm reading that the cadre also open up all the mail that comes through. Does that ever stop at any point? Or become less frequent? I know some of my friends want to write and they might recall high school stories (nothing illegal).

Only packages get opened up. It is mainly to ensure no contraband is being sent in by moms. It will continue until PS is over. It is usually just a quick peak into the box. Once they become more comfortable with you as a human and are able to trust you they may just ask if there is anything not allowed in the box.

they don't read the letter - they may give you a hard time. like if they see a letter from mom they may open the letter and then make up some stuff about what really is written or even pretend it's from a g/f or b/f

care packages will be opened too - just get use to it and it only lasts thru plebe summer. like it's been stated before it's to check to make sure no one is given something they shouldn't have

you forget you belong to the Navy now there is no sense of privacy...haha! :)
