March 31st Last Day for USAFA appointments?

Need some guidance related to AFROTC and USAFA commitments.
DS is CPR for USAFA and has been participating in AFROTC at his university.
He was given an AFROTC scholarship last month and originally had until May to commit.
Last week they informed him that AFROTC HQ had moved the commitment date up to 8April for all paper work, and he has to make his decision by this Wed, 6April.
Does any one understand how this might work? Can he some how receive an extension to commit for AFROTC for a week or two?
Can he complete the AFROTC paperwork and change if an appointment were to come through in the next couple days or weeks?
Maybe this should be in a different post?
Appreciate any assistance.
Your DS can accept the ROTC scholarship and still accept the USAFA appointment. I suggest he accept it and put it in his back pocket as his Plan B. When he shows up at USAFA, his scholarship will be nullified.

He was told he may have to go to court to be able to break his ROTC contract. He's been participating in ROTC this year at his University. Does that change situation since he has been in ROTC this year? Scholarship doesn't start until he accepts. May retroactively cover this spring semester. Just want to make sure he has good guidance.
Thx

I can personally attest that if he is dropping AFROTC to go to a service academy he will NOT have to go to court. I had to break my contract, or rather transfer it, when I got my appointment after two years of AFROTC.

Minor update.... I contacted my counselor re: updated grades described in my previous post. Quickly responded, requesting them!

I truly believe this is just an internal IT thing within the AFA servers. I know as parents, we are just as anxious to hear word as the applicants are. Sometimes, more so, because we want the USAFA to recognize all the hard work our son or daughter has done to get to this point. But, as DS and I have talked about, even if the news may not be what he wants to hear-he has earned the privilege of getting this far in the process. Already, he has learned far more interview skills and essay writing skills than other kids his age. He continues to go forward with his plan B while he hopes for good news from the academy. He learned on Friday that he received a type 7 AFROTC scholarship, so he's currently riding that high while he waits.

USAFA or AFROTC, either way he'll get where he wants to go ("Air Force, all the way, mom.") And, either way, I'll be an Air Force mom :D

+1 @Cjbbugs This process has been incredible (and I was honestly not expecting a nomination even. Got two) So if nothing else, I learned a ton from joining a public speaking club, doing two more sports, adding a higher level math class than I "needed", and finishing the application with all of the essays, resume writing, and interviews. I also got a Type 7 scholarship. Air Force all the way!

I appreciate the comment, but I know how the system works, too. ;) KS-02 gets four total appointees. My DS only had the nom from our KS-02 MOC and Presidential, and Pres is super hard to get appointed from. It's all good, my DS is just as awesome and qualified as so many others who weren't appointed. Now if he could just make his decision!! Sigh. Six days left.

He wants to fly. But, he knows there are no guarantees to get a pilot slot (or aviation in the Army). He said he couldn't think of much else he wants to do in the Air Force. But in the Army, if he doesn't get aviation, he had other branches he would like. I also think (although he did not say this) that having his brother to help him at USMA was a big factor.
