March Appointments

He is going to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Also an excellent service academy with awesome opportunties.

AtlantaDad

Aw. I am so sorry Atlanta Dad. We are fearful of the same. No envelope today though.
Best wishes for whatever new adventure awaits your son

Don't be affraid to reapply. I had classmates who got in the second time around. If he wants USCG, there is also OTCs...where the USCG pays for two years of college, you pay for two, and then you head to OCS after as an OTC.

Seems to be a good deal, I just don't know much about it.

Atlantadad, we are all very sorry to hear. I am sure that your son will do very well with plan B!!:smile:Is he planning on applying again next year?

USCG

Thanks. We are still waiting on USCGA answer. That was his first choice all along. We know prep school(NAPS) is a possibility too. Any idea how we find out what his status is for that?

Old, Confused and Dazed

Sorry. In my disappointed state of mind I got my forums confused. Thought I was on USAFA. Got the small letter from Air Force. Still alive for USCGA. Long day, I should stay off the computer. Any thoughts on NAPS?

I would call admissions at CGA and ask them. The have a CG officer at NAPS, but I don't know who it is...I'll check.

Admissions has some good guys and gals who would know.

Thanks

Everyone at the Academy has always been very polite and helpful. They seem to keep the decision process a little tight to the vest, but perhaps I have been too cautious. It's crunch time now, nothing to lose - I might as well press the issue a bit more. Thanks. Time for some mexican food and a margarita.

He's at NAPS...Honestly, if it's not on CG Global, I 411 it.

NAPS is in Newport, so I would 411 the base the, ask the information line for NAPS, and then ask them the contact # for the CGLO.

I googled NAPS, this is the address and number.

Naval Academy Preparatory School
197 Elliot Street
Wing 1
Newport, Rhode Island 02841
(401) 841-6966

Again the CGLO (pronounced Sig-Low) is LT Brown, I don't know if I'd use the term CGLO though because I don't know if the squids there will know what that means. I haven't tried that phone number, but you should be able to ask for him if you get a real person instead of a recording.

The internet address is http://www.usna.edu/NAPS/.

Also, CGLO means Coast Guard Liaison Officer.

4. How do I contact a staff member?

Staff members can be reached by calling (401) 841-3488. You will then be transferred to the appropriate extension. Staff members can be reached via email by sending a message to lastname@naps.edu.

I just talked to a parent of a Coast Guard applicant. He called his son's CG Liasion Officer yesterday and was told it would be April 15 before his son at MMI heard from the Coast Guard. What does this mean to those not at MMI? I have no idea....just thought it would help you CG gals and guys to hear SOMETHING...this waiting to getting to me, too!

What's MMI?
Apr 15 was given to us as a hear-by date originally, too. I just got a little over-excited with the rumors of mail-call(!) coming. It's cool.
