March Army ROTC Board

My son's went up at the March board for the first time as well. I was thinking, based on other posts, that it would be a couple of weeks before we heard anything.

It would be nice to be able to know how many applicants they had at the March board and how many scholarships they still have available.

If you want to know how many scholarships are left at your son's schools of intent, call or email the PMS or ROO at your son's school choices. They will know how many national scholarships they have left for their battalion. This number may not be totally correct as they may or may not be able to see how many acceptances or declinations they received from offers from the last board. Those that were awarded the scholarships from the last board had until the 6th or the 10th of March to get their answers back to Cadet command.

The March board looked at your son's applications and any others that had not been boarded yet. Then they are placed with everyone who is still there and not awarded from all previous boards. Cadet Command will decide where to drop the OML score to and award scholarships to those who are at that number and above.

Good luck!

Thanks

This is my first one applying for a scholarship. He has already been accepted at Virginia Tech. We are just waiting to here from the scholarship board.

Thanks for your insight!

Thanks

Thanks to all who post here as the official info on the whole process is kind of sparse. My son did his interview on 2/12, so doubtful his info made to the Board in time for the 2/13 session.
The scholarship officer was impressed and indicated that he should "have no problem" qualifying for one. Still we take nothing for granted of course.

I understand from reading above that the 3/1 Board will probably have notifications out by 3/22 for the 4 year Army ROTC scholarship and that they would send out a letter requiring a response in relatively short order.

A couple questions for anyone who knows:

It is strictly a letter that we'd be looking for, or would checking the Cadet Command Scholarship Status page from time to time provide an answer on award, or is that strictly for application/documentation issues only?

The last Board is in April I think, and that is it for this year correct? Would make sense given that the typical date for accepting college admissions is May 1.

Thanks all. I know how proud us parents are of our kids regardless.:thumb:

If I remember correctly, there wasn't a 2/13 session, there was a January board and then a March and April board. The scholarships winners from January were notified at the end of January and had until March 6th to accept or decline the scholarship.

check the scholarship status page. If your son's status changes from "you may schedule an interview with a PMS" to "you may check the status on DoDMERB" or something similar mentioning DoDMERB then it should be good news. I will caution you not to assume if you see the notice that your son has been awarded scholarships to all his schools on the list. It will take a couple of days after that until you can see the school or schools that he was awarded the scholarship to.
There have been a few cases this year of scholarships winners winning a scholarship but not to any of their choices as they are all full. They are being given the opportunity to find other schools that have allocations open.

Any one who has been "boarded" throughout this whole process and has not received a scholarship will be in the running from the March and April boards.

There is one more board and that will be in April.

Good luck!!!

Thanks

Great info cjs, thank you very much. You are very kind to help other parents out. Have a nice day and best of luck to your sons.

I get so excited when I see this thread bumped. I've been good about not checking the status page for a while now since I know nothing's been updated. I'm sure once you all start posting you received a scholarship I will be doing major stalking on that site. Maybe a little obsessive.

Our email stated:
Your application for a four-year Army ROTC Scholarship has been processed and is considered complete.
You will be informed of your final selection status no later than May 30th.
When and from whom did you receive this email?

When and from whom did you receive this email?

My son didn't receive this email and for months after it was complete kept getting letters in the mail that his application wasn't complete even when it was. My son has been awarded and accepted a scholarship so it was complete.

Call Cadet Command and confirm that the application is complete.

Thanks.
These are some of the inconsistencies in their process that make me nervous.
(The first is when the online application software crashed right when we were sending it in January).

The Cadet Command Scholarship Status page still says "You have been selected for an interview" even though he's interviewed a month ago.
I think I've read others have had this too, but I will call just to be sure.

It will say you've been selected for an interview until a scholarship has been awarded. They don't update after you've had the interview.
My son interviewed in August and his page stayed that way until January when he was awarded the scholarship.

Thanks for the help. That's what I thought I had read.

It's little things like where a simple (automated) fix would save them hundreds of calls and emails. I'm sure they don't have the staff they'd like to have to handle this every year; but then who does?

Yes, it will say you've been selected for an interview...etc until you have been awarded a scholarship. cjs is right, mine was just like that until January also when I was awarded a scholarship.

With about a week untill we find out the results of the 1-5 March Baord--Good luck to everyone waiting:smile::smile::smile:If anyone hears anything, Please post for all to view.

It should be a week from today if it follows all the other boards.

Good luck!!!

Same here. Good luck!
Please post and let us know who all is still waiting.

98charlie - part of the problem is that Cadet Command is in transition. They are in the process of packing up at Ft Monroe which is a BRAC closure and moving out to Kentucky.
*Hopefully* the process next year will go smoother but with a short staffed Army and record applications - it's challenging.
Welcome to the Army!
LOL (not really )

My son has had his application in since November and had been up before all teh baords, jsut not picked up yet.

I spoke with the PMS at his school of choice and where he intereviewd to see if they had any National scholarships left and this was his reply " We are tracking him and do have him slotted for a scholarship. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for your time."

What do you think this means? Do you think it measn if he is not picked up nationally that he will get a campus based scholarship? He has been offered a Wrestling scholarship to his school of choice #2, but would like to go ROTC the most!!

Thanks for any interpetation of this! Mom is going crazy here!!!

Just_A_Mom, I hear you. I was in 30 years ago, some things don't change much, especially Army admin. :)

But then again, consolodation and running lean is everywhere I'm sure, the military as well as the private sector...

Thanks to all who post here... next Monday guess we'll know something.
