March Army ROTC Board

"We are tracking him and do have him slotted for a scholarship. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for your time."

I would take this as a postive sign. Many schools have run out of scholarships, so to hear they have allocated budget money for your son is positive. I don't think you can extrapolate this positive message on the CC budget to a campus based scholarship. As I understand it, campus based scholarships are funded by the school's budget, which in many cases means it comes from state budget funds. Some of the schools my D applied to lost all their campus based scholarships, others did not. You might ask the PMS at your son's #1 school if they have access to campus scholarship $ this year.

The Jan board was 11-14 Jan. Status changes began Jan 29 according to the Jan board thread. Perhaps we will start to hear something as early as Friday or Saturday!

I sure hope so…

Best wishes to all the other AROTC hopefuls :)

On pins and needles waiting like everyone else. Emailed contact person at cadet command today and actually got a response back shortly after. Questioned whether Mar 1-5 board results were in and got a response back "Mar 1-5 board results are not in yet".

I spoke with the PMS from my son's #2 school last week. All their 4 year scholarships have been awarded. He also said that the "bar has not been lowered" since the first review board.

Sounds like competition this year is tough.

Hopeful for positive results from this board. Good luck to everyone.

Thinking about your son and wishing for the best.

Good luck. I'll be thinking of you and your son as well.

Remember, the scholarships may have all been awarded as of now but that may change. If someone is waiting to hear on an SA then they will give back their scholarships. If someone is hoping to transfer to another school when they receive their letter is April or May asking if they still intend to go to the school they picked then one may open.

I think with all the ROTC scholarships and SAs this year competition has been extremely difficult. I know for West Point they said that they're facing the toughest competition is over a decade.

Again, good luck!

We want our son to receive a scholarship because it would be a reflection of all the hard work he has put into achieving a great academic record over the years not to mention all the extracurriculars and volunteer hours. He's a great kid.
We are proud of him whether or not the Army is able to reward his efforts. We also know that he will be successful at whatever he chooses to do with his talents and abilities. Just like your kids.
These are a great bunch of kids-I have been impressed with the quality of kids that you parents have raised. All of them have done a great job getting this far. If the Army can't award them, it's not a reflection of a lack of ability on their part-it's a reflection of the times we are in.
I know our son will live up to his potential-we'll be there to help. If this door doesn't open we'll look for another way around. These kids are capable of achieving a lot in their lives and they will. There is more than one way to skin a cat as the saying goes.
So good luck to those still waiting-congratulations to those who have and will receive an offer and to those who don't make the cut-keep looking, keep asking questions and find another way around.

Well said.

And when we say good luck, it is with all honesty as there is a certain degree of luck in applying to the right schools where scholarships are available. Goaliegirl just sent off her acceptance paperwork to UW Eau Claire and her declination letter to her #3 unit that offered her a 3-year AD. Hopefully, some lucky kid in that unit will get that 3-year AD and make the most of it.

Very well said and we should be proud of our kids and their accomplishments. Trust me, I've been a police officer in San Diego for the last 24 years and I see the kids on the side of the aisle. As a matter of fact, aside from dealing with the politics of management, dealing with kids (ages 15-23) is the worst part of the job. The elitist, anti-authority, "it's all about me" attitudes that too many kids exhibit drives be batty.

Our kids, rather they get accepted to ROTC or an academy or not, are the game changers of the future. They will be the ones stepping up to making a difference, rather it be in the military or in a far off conference room on Wall Street. So yes, BE PROUD OF YOUR KIDS and all they've accomplished. As far as I'm concerned, scholarships aside, I'm proud of everybody who is willing to step up and be a member of our armed forces. :thumb:

Hello from San Diego County! My husband has been w/the Sheriff's Dept for over 20 years, and our son just graduated from the Explorer Academy last weekend. He's looking forward to going on ride-alongs (out of the Ramona station). So, he'll have something to keep himself busy while we wait to hear on the AROTC scholarship.

Yes, there's definitely a big (good) social shift back to responsibility w/the current generation of teens vs. those who are in their late 20's/early 30's. Our son and his group of friends don't drink, do drugs, and want to volunteer in their community. What more can we ask for?

Check with the programs that you are interested in and ask them about the availablity of campus based scholarships. Just be aware, the applicants this year are many and they are well qualified. Good luck!

:smile:Well it has been two weeks since the board finished, Hopefully we hear some great news today or in the next few days....

Looks like the results are starting to post.
Check your status board for an update.

It's like Christmas morning. Now I want my present!!! I know I will be getting nothing done at work today. Good luck to everyone!
