March Madness SAF Bracket Challenge 2018

I am from Philadelphia and went to college there, attending a Big 5 school that was NOT Villanova. I cannot, under any circumstance root for that school. Not happening. Those from Philly, particularly from non-V schools, will understand.

The rest of the big 5 has a huge inferiority complex and that is where this ridiculous hatred for Villanova originates. Even the local sports media show their envy (most went to that other big 5 school that begins with a T). Do you see other area universities hating on Loyola Chicago? So what is the difference between two small catholic schools. Villanova has dominated their peers for so long it has been a unifying rally with the other schools because they have been unable to replicate their success both from a basketball and academic reputation. Rollie pulled out of the big five because he knew that the program had to play higher profile teams to compete on a national scale. Jay Wright is a bit more sensitive to what the big 5 used to be. No other big 5 school has even beaten Villanova in the last 4 or 5 years and the margins of victory are embarrassing. The other big5 schools can keep the hate coming and Villanova will just keep winning!

Great dialogue? Maybe you can enlighten me why all the other big 5 schools hate Villanova with such earnest? Is it the whole “rich kid” thing? Get over it. I grew up across from Jameer Nelson in Chester and never let my surroundings dictate my future (neither did he). I cheer for all the big 5 schools and Big East schools when they are not playing Villanova because the overall success for the leagues is good for all. Healthy rivalry is great but I will never accept the blind hate for something not based on logic and reasoning (other then they are not like us therefore I must hate them).

Years ago, I ran into a Villanova grad wearing a school T-shirt that read: "Villanova - The Notre Dame of the East." Being a Notre Dame grad, that always cracked me up! ;)

But come on... you have got to jump on the Loyola bandwagon. Love to see the impossible become possible.

USMCGrunt- too funny. The new “tag line” is Villanova the Duke of the North! All great schools with great traditions and I actually see parodies in the coaching philosophies of Coach K, Lou Holtz and Jay Wright. They built their programs the right way. Love Loyola Chicago and Sister Jean! Good for the sport and if my wildcats get knocked out by TT or in the final four I will be routing hard for them to make more history then they already have.

When I was in college before electricity was discovered, I lived in Loyola's dorms when my alma mater, DePaul (a basketball dynasty back in the day) ran out of room. Still talk to my three Loyola roommates; we didn't even know they HAD a basketball team! :)

The 79’ DePaul team that upset UCLA was historic. Ending UCLA’s dominance was the start of parody in the modern basketball era. Unfortunately they have not found the next Ray Meyer or been able to land most of the enormous amount of basketball talent in the Chicago area to stay close to home.

In no way am I that knowledgeable about basketball (just look at my woeful bracket), but I see similar hate here in VA for Duke & UNC -- my friends who love UVA would never cheer for Duke. And my BIL who works at UNC would die before ever cheering for Duke -- makes it really interesting since my other BIL works at Duke.
Gotta love the mid-major Cinderella's in the tournament -- only a few years ago it was George Mason heading to the final four; that year everyone in VA was routing for them when they got there.
Only 4 more days til baseball season opens -- go Phillies!

I would never root for Duke either ( see 2015 championship game for context, go Badgers!) but business is business so I had to pick them to win it all.

I don't think I've ever seen so many upsets. Couldn't even watch most of the games since the start of the final four because they were so lopsided. If it's not close, it's not worth watching in my book. Thanks goodness my remote has a "previous" button.
