Heart breaking story, and I'm sure there is so much more to it. I encourage all future officers on this message board to read the article.

This ended the career of Maj Gen Castellvi, an excellent officer. AAVs have been falling apart for decades. Training and training records are important is an understatement. Would the Marines and Doc been able to egress if they had been to egress training? I don't know but they were in a vehicle that is hard to get out of anyway plus it was found at greater than 300 feet.

And this statement is ludicrous: Had the eight Marines and one sailor in the amphibious assault vehicle completed underwater egress training, they likely would still be alive, wrote retired Marine Col. Walter Yates in a recent commentary for Task & Purpose.

I haven't been in one in a long time but have first person accounts of the materiel condition of these coffins.

One such AAV had to have the rear hatch opened by banging on the dogs with a hammer. And it was in an UP status.

This was a terrible situation all around. The higher one goes in rank and responsibility, the farther one gets from the things that will get them fired.
