I would like to confirm if NROTC applicants for the Marine Corps option take the AFA (consisting of 1 min pushups, 1 min situps, and 1 mile) instead of the USMC PFT. I ask this because I recently got an email urging me to complete my application so that I can be scheduled to take a “PFT”, which is completely different from the AFA. Can anybody confirm what test I will be taking? Thanks.

@NJcandidate2024 - you will take the USMC Physical Fitness Test (PFT) which will be monitored by an active duty Marine. You want to do well on this - seek to max your score but try to ensure a first class score at a minimum.

+1 to above. You should be performing the PFT, as documented, prior to scheduling the official PFT. The cumulative events with the required rest period is pretty exhausting. If you aren't already running three consecutive miles then you need to get to work. You might be able to convince your local recruiter to allow you to work out with the poolees, but do not let them talk you into enlisting first to "improve" your application.

As far as scoring goes I believe a 1st class score is the minimum but in order to be competitive you want to be shooting for a 285 or above.
