Exactly. I used more of what I learned in the shops at KP than I did in the classroom and at sea. I remember on one of my road trips (I was sailing at the time as CE for Crowley), I was driving back to California and got stopped by snow in Carson City, Nevada. It was a long day of driving, so I got a room and headed downtown to the Casino. Casual conversation with the black jack dealer revealed that he grew up in the northeast and had heard of KP (a rare thing, indeed). He asked me if there was a lot of math to get through and I told him, yes, minimum five quarters of calculus. He nodded his head and then asked me how much of that advanced math I used at work. . . I told him to just deal the cards. . . .
