Anyone have info on this course? My plebe has this as summer training, and was advised it has a new format this year. It appears to be 30 days long! Just a curious parent here......

You can read a little about what they plan to do at 29 Palms in this PDF file and also some of the history of the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center (MCMWTC) here.
What they go through is described a little more here. Not sure what the schedule is, or what the dates are.

THParent: I suspect you meant to type Bridgeport, CA and not 29 Palms (although it did snow on me during Operation Gallant Eagle while training in the Palms)

Yes! Thanks for the correction, @USMCGrunt :)

I automatically typed in 29palms to research it first, because I knew they would have something on it.
After that, I had 29 palms and trigger-pullers on the brain. Doh!

Damn. I was about to sing the praises of the high desert. Oh well!

I thought Mt Warfare was being discontinued? Maybe they're just accepting a limited number now as opposed to it being a standard cruise? The link didn't take me to a PDF but instead took me to the results of a google search so i have no insight whatsoever.

If he has a chance to go to the Mountain Warfare Training Center at Pickle Meadows, CA (Sierra Nevada Mountains), encourage him to go. It is outstanding training for those who may be required to operate in small units or battalion sized units at high altitude. We learned some very tough lessons in the Mountains of Korea, fighting in the winter. This school was designed to teach those lessons learned. It has been continuously improved, with modifications made from our lessons learned in Afghanistan. You will learn what needs to be considered when you take a large group of Marines up above 10,000 feet for protracted operations. Oh, and by the way, it is beautiful - up there was the day that I stopped and said, "I can't believe I am getting paid to be here."
