Marine Option - Boots

DS received advice to get, and break in, a pair of boots prior to new student orientation. The Uniform Requirements for NROTC list Boots, Tan USMC. Any suggestions?
 
For my unit, and I'm pretty sure every unit, all uniform items are provided. I can only speak for my unit, but I know the boot thing is taken into account, especially for the Navy options, so the new 4/c only wear the NWU/MARPAT for the drill periods, uniform inspection, and the classroom briefs. Otherwise they're in pt gear. My MO roommate said he didn't have a problem with them, and my MSgt said they only need to be "broken in" for people with "***** feet".
 
mgreen: NROTC unit will issue boots. With today's footwear, I see no reason to worry about breaking in a pair prior to school starting.
 
I know the USMC is moving to issue the Danner Rat boot, but I doubt it has trickled-down to NROTC yet. My 2019 MO got an extra pair of Bates USMC Durashock boots. I would have him\her call the unit and ask what they issue before purchasing an extra pair. I think the "break-in" issue is not a problem. If you want a clean pair of boots right away after muddying the other pair up, buy an extra pair. Don't think it is necessary, however.
