My son got a call ( was not home) from a Marine Captain today.
He had previously been notified via portal he did not get a scholarship.
He will call back tomorrow but any thoughts as to the call?

Could be a call giving advice to start NROTC MO application for next year (assuming your son is high school senior). It could also be the Officer Selection Officer wanting to talk about the Platoon Leader's Class program as an alternate.

My DS received a similar call in the Fall of 2015 after not receiving an NROTC/MO scholarship.

He tried to talk my DS into doing PLC concurrently with AROTC (his college doesn't offer NROTC).
My son had by that time bonded with his Army ROTC unit. Feeling it would both dilute his efforts and be disloyal, he politely declined the offer from the Marine Captain.

Three weeks later he earned the Army scholarship.

My son already has a 3yr AD AROTC scholarship for a SMC.
He would contract Army before he could get through PLC.
Bird in the hand.....

May be just to explain the paths to commissioning still open to him.
