Marine Option NROTC Board Dates

Just found this older thread as my DS was also required this week to re-do the PFT when rolled over to second (February) board. We were told this is not specifically to "improve" the score, but because the PFT has to be within a certain date of the second board. We tried to figure out what the new score (taken January 10) is but we see that, at some point, the grades/scales changed. If I'm not mistaken, grading has gotten tougher. Does anyone know if they still go by "classes," and, if so, what the threshold number is for "first class" under the new scale? And not to push my luck: I understand physical fitness is extremely important for marine option and 300 is the goal, but can anyone estimate (guess) the importance of the PFT in relation to other factors (e.g. academics, leadership, etc)?

Thanks USMCGrunt, I was just looking at your very helpful(!) posts about the "first class" score and was just wondering if 225+ was still it under the new scale. We found an old chart and our score looked decent, but then found a score calculator for what we think is new scale and points were lower, but still over 225. Looks like it's 235 now under the calculator you provided - we're 2 points off. And in the "hindsight is easy" category, never, ever stop working on crunches!

Does anyone know if the 1st or 2nd board awards more scholarships? Or is it pretty even with the number given out?

2nd and Final Board question....

My DS checked the portal and it says the typical message, "Your application is at the Marine Corps District for board selection", but it also now says "Items Waiting to be Processed - Test Scores".

Is that normal? All of his test scores were submitted back in November, with the exception of the updated PFT score (thankfully he scored better) done in early February. Does he need to reach out or is this just part of the process?

AFAIUI, when it's at the Selection Board, ideally nothing should be waiting to be processed. If it were me, I'd proactively reach out to your local NROTC scholarship coordinator. If you don't hear back, contact Pensacola. While I'm sure it'll get resolved, obviously if you can get your DS' package before an earlier board, that's better than any an unnecessary delays. Good luck!

Thank you, I will have my DS reach out.

I imagine it's the PFTcscore that needs to be processed, whatever that means. It never hurts to reach out. Sometimes the portal lags behind the actual status. Shouldn't be that way in the 21st century, but...

Thank you

DS just heard back from his NROTC Scholarhip Coordinator, he told him to Disregard the message as they are in selection boards this week. So, I guess that means he (my DS) should be hearing something soon. Good luck to all of those in this last board.

I will tell you that what seems like an eternity ago (3 years) my son's status didn't update until long after he made it. Life seems to be full of relative eternities -- especially when relatives' future are concerned.
