Marine Option NROTC Status?

I spoke to the New Jersey rep yesterday. He advised me that I did not get the scholarship and that the Marine Corps issues 20 less than they did last year. My status is not yet updated. Good Luck to the rest of you that haven't heard anything.

Sorry to hear that nhlchamp6. Don't give up on your dream, on to Plan B. My DS is still waiting to hear, but I am told that only 40 were awarded in the 4th Marine District out of 260!!! Enormously competitive.

Thank you pennak. I will be off to Norwich in hopes of a side load scholarship, if that doesn't come through..it will be off to Plan C. Good Luck as well !!!

Good luck at Norwich! My DS has been admitted to Norwich, VMI Texas A&m and Citadel and University of Washington and if he doesn't get MO NROTC, he will have to choose which among these to go to. If this great community of contributors has any perspectives on that choice, I would love to hear them! DS seems to like them all. We have visited /overnighted at all the these schools, save A&M which we are going to on April 8 for their Eagle Scout Scholarship weekend. Thanks.

I have spent the last three summers at Norwich. First year as a participant at drill camp, the second and third year as an assistant instructor for drill camp. I like the small college feel. The one thing to remember is Norwich is in the middle of no where. A lot of guy's from my NJROTC unit have gone to school at Norwich and everyone has been happy with their education. We have 5 going from my high school for the Fall of 2011.

If you need specific info on Norwich let me know.

Sad news today, DS got the NO GO for MO NROTC. I am really wondering what it takes. he had a 1400 SAT (800 CR), over 4.0 weghted average, 241 pft and was an Eagle Scout. No athletics (for reasons too complicated to go into here). Maybe that is fatal.

Oh well, now the task is to consider the merit scholarships he already gotten and may get and try to choose the best SMC -- he has gotten into VMI, Norwich, Citadel and Texas A&M.

:frown:...It is so competitive this year. These kids are awesome young people with great ability. It will come through and be recognized eventually wherever they go. :thumb:

I had a PFT of 288, 3.5 GPA, 3 varsity letters and Company Commander of NJROTC. White males are at a disadvantage, and I heard that more than once. Good Luck..Maybe we will meet one another at Norwich.

I was also told this more than once (by reliable military sources). "The administration is pushing to diversify the officer ranks to match the enlisted ranks." The standards for white males are now much more stringent to receive a military scholarship from all branches.
