My DS portal changed for MARINE OPTION on Friday 3/17/17 to "Your application was not selected for a scholarship". No phone call from the recruiter he has worked with the last 3 yrs, no call from the Recruiting Station Captain who said his interview was the best in 3 years, no email, no snail mail. He was shocked as everyone has been told results possibly the first week in April. Please respond if your portal has changed for MARINE OPTION ONLY for the good or the bad. I have been following this forum since last Fall and have read many posts. So much for the Marines not updating their portal slow or never. Location Washington State. Questions if anyone can answer:
1. When he re-applies in the Fall for the scholarship will he work with our same local Marine office again and will the same board be reviewing? I have seen all of the positive outcomes of many getting it the second time around. Also, will the same board be reviewing?
2. The "Spring" college programer option is confusing. Please explain the process. Is this done again through the local offices? Any information is appreciated.

I suppose it's up to him if he works with the same recruiting office. My son nev er worked through a recruiter but directly with the district office. I'm sure some just fill out the app and take care of it themselves. Your DS may choose to work through a recruiter near his college if that's more convenient. I'm pretty confident that the composition of the board will change, so it won't be the same board in that sense.

Not sure what you mean by the "Spring" college programmer option, but assuming you're referring to the sideload scholarship application, that is completed with the assistance and review of both the AMOI and MOI. It is not done through local offices at all and is an entirely separate board from the national high school scholarship board.

Just checked my portal (very nervously) and it has changed to say "All required items have been processed" and under selection status it says "No decision has been made on your application." At least I know they received my full application after reading the horror stories about "lost applications" or portions never submitted.

Hopefully this means a decision is coming soon for myself and others, sorry to hear about your son.

253Mar: Sorry your DS got bad news. Once he gets over the shock, I encourage him to reach out to his contacts to assure them that he will continue pursuing the goal of becoming a Marine Officer. He can ask how he might improve his application (essay, physical fitness, teacher recommendations, leadership, etc) and ask for their coaching.

In regards to the portal being updated before your DS was contacted. I am sure it is simply a timing issue.

Similar thing happened to my son 3 years ago.

Here is a link to my son's journey in the process

Thank you, this is what I am referring to re the Spring college program option, I keep seeing "Marine Option college program midshipman". For the national high school scholarship 2nd go around is it all new recommendation letters and teacher evaluations, in other words is he starting over?

Which Marine Corps Recruiting District are you in?

I believe he is starting over, but I can't bet my life on it. If he enrolls in NROTC I would expect his cadre could answer that question. You might even be able to get it asked and answered this spring via a phone call. He'll need to contact the unit at the college he plans to attend anyway, to start the process of enrolling as a college programmer. He'll need to know details on what courses to enroll into for Freshman Orientation or whenever it is he signs up for classes. At least in units I'm familiar with it's enrolling in these specific classes that officially start the process.

Just checked the USN MO ROTC portal and still no decision as of 3/19/2017

Same status via the Netfocus or via the USN MO ROTC portal. So it must be just you.

On my status page, there are like 4-5 things under the "Items waiting to be processed" section. Is that bad? Does that mean they were never processed when the board happened/was happening?

You have to talk to the horse's mouth to get the correct answer to that. I never trusted these portals and their status, but that's just me. There is at least one person on another thread (think you probably read it) for whom stuff was not sent in.

My portal had those messages until sometime between 3/17 and today. (3/17 was when I last logged on.)

It now looks like this:

My DS is very similar...

Application has been submitted online.
Your application is Board Ready and Pending a Decision.
Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection.
Items waiting to be processed:

He went through the first board in November and now he awaiting this board like you. Truthfully, the kid is so focused and knows exactly what he wants to do that the results will not deter him. He will be a Marine Officer regardless. Good luck to you all and there are no words to describe the pride!

My netfocus was updated on 3/17/17 with the "your application was not selected for a scholarship". Which surprised me as i was told i wouldn't know until early-mid April, my future unit told me to wait until i got my official acceptance/denial letter for the scholarship. Once that happens we're going to start the re-submission process, until that happens i just gotta stay motivated and keep working towards my goal of being a marine officer. Good luck y'all! #PVAMU21

Good luck to you. I like your attitude!

Mine changed sometime today to look like that

Best of luck to all. It ain't over until the fat lady sings.

From what I remember, my DS website changed in all kinds of goofy ways towards the end. I assumed it meant that they were messing with the system, batch updates, etc. Changes on the website indicates "something" is going on. Don't read more into it than that.
