I'm curious if anyone knows how many candidates applied for the 2018 Marine Rotc national scholarship and how many were accepted? I have a son who has an early board application in for 2019 and was wondering about his scores and how they stacked up against the competition. His GPA 3.6 and SAT 1270, PFT 296 and has 3 years of various military summer camp experience to go along with varsity high school wrestling and baseball. Any thoughts would be appreciated

@laty0341 - were you a mortarman or does the "0341" stand for something else?

There are a few folks who respond to "chance me" posts but I am not one of them. Way too many variable like the application, interview, and leadership positions, etc. You can certainly search the question within these Forums and find some examples to compare your DS to.

I just want to let you and your DS know the race is a marathon not a sprint. Even if his application is seen on the first board, the results don't show up until December. There is a chance that the application rolls to the second board which means a spring notification. Of course, there is also a DODMERB (physical) to get past also.

Hang in there. Congrats to your DS on his achievements and thanks for his interest in serving.

10 4 - thanks for the note

No one can say. My son had a little lower GPA and a higher SAT. His PFT was 285 and he had the varsity sports. He did not receive a scholarship. My own guess is (at least) lack of sufficient formal leadership. But I wasn't in his interview and didn't evaluate his essays. Good luck to your son. Hope his dreams come true. There is always the college programmer route (which my son did) and the PLC, and OCS routes to commissioning if he doesn't win a scholarship.
