Service Academy Prep at MMI is outstanding for self sponsored and sponsored cadets. If anyone is exploring their “plan B” please look into civil prep school. I am happy to answer any questions just PM me. I have a self sponsored child who earned multiple appointments. Best decision our cadet made was to attend MMI.

Good to hear! I am attending MMI next year!

I love reading about self sponsored kids earning appointments!! Our son will be a self sponsored and we are hoping he gets an appointment.
My DS self prepped for CGA last year and was waitlisted at KP and CGA but ultimately rejected. He knew he was close last year and decided to return and try again. He received appointment offers from both and chose Coast Guard last week. He did receive some scholarship help from MMI and it ultimately proved to be an excellent return on investment and fulfilled his dream since he was about 12.

Our son was recently denied admission to USMA after being on waitlist for a few weeks. Can you please shed some light on the following?

1. Is it too late for him to inquire about an AOG scholarship? While I believe I understand the process in which these are awarded, I am unclear of the timeline of when one might be awarded.
2. Am I correct that "self sponsored" means that the student is not sponsored by AOG and is covering MMI costs on their own?
3. Are sponsored students' chances of USMA admission better than those of self sponsored?

Thank you!

1. Can't answer. I'm not as familiar with AOG scholarships.
2. Self-sponsored is just that; student pays their own way. This is different from sponsored, who are getting scholarships from the alumni foundations.
3. Sponsored students have class spots set aside for them. All they have to do is show satisfactory performance (as defined by the foundation) and they'll likely be admitted. Self-sponsored have to compete for the slot in the admission cycle like everyone else, so they have to do top performance to get admission.

Do they have to have DODMERB medical clearance for MMI? What sort of medical do they put them through? We are exploring this option if my son's waiver for USMA is denied.

Routine medical issues are handled at our infirmary, with referrals to the local medical center. In addition, the lead doctor there is a MGen in the Army Reserve, so he has lots of experience in working through the DoDMERB process.

How is the self-sponsor application process for MMI? Is it like a SA application with CFA and teacher recs? Or more like a traditional school with a solely online application? Thank you in advance; any input is appreciate.

MMI is a fully accredited two-year college, so it's a standard college application process. While you are are MMI your first year are the same courses as the AOG scholars. You also go through all the USMA application process (noms, admissions apps, CFA, etc.). Should you not be accepted to USMA, you can stay at MMI a second year and complete your Associate's degree, reapplying to the academy if you desire.

Go online at www.marionmilitary.edu and check out the admissions section. In addition, you should call admissions at 1-800-664-1842.

Thank you very much. What kind of candidates are given an AOG scholarship instead of a direct appointment to the SA? And How competitive are the other MMI scholarships?

I have a couple of questions for SAP cadets attending MMI this fall. First, does anyone have experience with Judo or Jiu-Jitsu? Second, is anyone enrolling in the flight training this fall (for PPL) who would be open to carpooling?

I'm a little late to the party, but we loved what MMI did for my first child- so much so that my second child is currently attending. The SAP track was amazing and just what my C4C at USAFA needed for admission. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

My DS has excellent athletic and leadership credentials, but academics and test scores are a bit low for the SA's. He's considering MMI SAP as a backup plan. Question: Is it possible at MMI to be enrolled simultaneously in SAP and Early Commissioning Program? The idea would be that if the appointment isn't landed after year 1 he could continue with the associates degree and then transfer to a 4-year school. Thanks.

I have a friend who was a SAP, didn't get into an academy, then did ECP. He's now a colonel in the army and always promoted ahead of his friends who went to the academies. He loved his experience at MMI. I'm sure admissions would be happy to discuss options with you.
