Maryland MOC's

Sorry, forgot to post that this is all for USMA. MD is very competitive, but USNA is the biggest one applied to in the area by far.

My daughter rec'd her nomination letter from Sen. Mikulski Wednesday before Thanksgiving- made for a great holiday. Question- on her candidate status page there's a number next to the MOC nomination. Any idea what that means?

Thanks!

Is it a 61 or 62?

That just denotes that it's from a Senator vs 01, 02, 03 etc for house districts. Senators don't have "districts" per se and no State has more than 53 house districts, so they use the 61 and 62 to denote one Senator or the other.

Congratulations, clind!

Thanks for the reply. The nomination status box on her Candidate Status shows something like:

"Congressional / Senatorial 2" then district, which is blank (presumably b/c it's a senator, and the date the letter was posted.

Thanks again!

clind13290, approximately how long did it take to reflect on your daughter's portal? Our MOC's office has uploaded their nomination list to the USNA's system, but I was wondering how long it takes to appear on the CIS. Thanks!

It took about 1 week, but this time span included the Thanksgiving Holiday, which may have delayed the upload. That said, my daughter indicated that it typically takes 7-10 days for the CIS to reflect status changes. Best of luck!

I have seen many WP candidates with a senatorial and a congressional nomination.

Just curious- what's the consensus on double nom in MD? DD received nom from Sen Mikulski around Thanksgiving. Just got letter from Congresswoman Edwards saying no joy (but would nom DD for USMMA). Funny thing was DD had much stronger interview with Edwards and much smaller pool of candidates. Thanks!

Who ever is telling you can apply to other states MOCs is feeding your really bad information.

There is an exception, but it is insanely unique. My child could have been nominated by either AK or NC. The reason why was Bullet was ADAF. He was a resident of AK, we owned a home in NC, as a military spouse NC requires the spouse to get a drivers license from NC. If you work in NC than you pay NC taxes. That combined with owning a home made me a NC resident, while Bullet because he was ADAF was considered AK even though we owned a home in NC. He could not apply for both. It was one state or the other. In essence, the parents would have to be legal residents in two different states.
~ Owning a vacation home or a rental property in another state does not qualify as residency. It is where you vote and pay federal taxes.

I think you might be confusing it with USMMA. USMMA allows candidates to apply to any and all congressional MOC sources within their state., unlike the big three where it is your congressional district.

I will caveat, maybe there is some MOC out there that does not make them be a constituent, but I don't know of one. Most state on their application....must be a resident.

* Does anyone know when Cardin chimes in?

Last year, Cardin didn't notify his candidates or submit his nominations to USNA until the end of January.

That is not what I said.

AFAIK, they did not apply to any other state. But their nomination came from another state. And, no, its not USMMA. Its the big three.

I have no clue how it happens; just that it apparently happens.

I think you must have misunderstood what your sources were saying (or their statements were sort of generalities).

Not all MOC nominate someone. Others nominate people who end up not qualifying for one reason or another (medical, fitness exam, scholastic). Because of that there are many openings that are unfilled after the one person off each MOC list gets admitted.

Because of that, numbers 2,3,4,5 (for example) might make it off Mikulski's list (or any other MOC). So, if effect you are taking the slot from another state but it doesn't show up that way officially. After numbers 2-10 aren't picked off an MOC nomination they are all put into a big pool of applicants. The NA then picks a large number of them. Those, however, do not get officially listed as being from another state, they get listed as a Naval Academy Superintendent pick (or something like that. That may not be the exact person/phrase) and are not counted against any MOC's allotment of 5 attendees in any given year.

MDDAD,

We get your anxiety. Personally, I would go and enjoy time with my child. Make some memories, because come July that is all he will have!

Please, and I mean this with the utmost kindness, stop now.

I get you are proud of your child, but ..... others are trying to understand your fear/frustration....2 àppoint!ments and free ride colleges, while they (other candidates) vie for just one appointment. Not trying to guilt you.
~ okay, maybe it is juat me trying to get the angst in your posts.
~~ JMPO if no nomination to USNA, than use the NROTC scholarship and the merit scholarship from the college, because he will go Active Duty, and the ring doesn't make or break you when your Active Duty. ...Colin Powell was AROTC.

I am not trying to be rude or mean, just trying to get your angst.

Fate is fate impo. If it is meant to be it will happen...as long as you gave 100%. Your child did just that. Hence, go and make some memories tonight and every night until I Day because he will want them when he is going through BCT.

Good luck, and I wish him the very best in everything that he deserves.

PS. I pulled up 4 MOC guidelines, what does it state for residence?
~ I did juts pull up 3 Senators that came to the top of my cranium.
Sen. Coburn state...Oklahoma Residents
Sen. john McCain...states AZ HS students
Sen. Feinstein....legal California resident students

Senator Burr brings it down very clearly regarding nominating sources...you can only be nominated from the state you are a legal resident.

I am not going to look up all 535 MOCS, but I am guessing all of them have the same line somewhere....state residency....I purposely picked OK, AZ, and NC because they ARE NOT competitive states like KD.

JMPO, but if kid wouldn't be happy at academy B or C, why did kid apply? You just never know what will happen. There are VP moms and sup noms floating around. The fat lady has not yet begun to sing, so hang in there. :thumb::thumb:

DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP!!! Seriously, there are "Supt" noms and VP nom. If Academy 1 really wants kid, they will find him a nom, all is not lost if Moc#3 doesn't come thru. Its not a given that they will find a nom for those with loas, but there are some to be found, so the chance is there. There is no need to make any decisions now. The kid has earned the right to weigh ALL options, and he/she may not know ALL options until March or April. Like I said before, wait on accepting Academy B offer, accept offer to plan B or C civilian school and any ROTC scholarship if applicable. IF Appointment from plan A comes through, take it, and have kid send letter to civilian school/ROTC detachment explaining he has accepted Academy A offer.
