Mass Appointments

Great news for your son!! Our son just received a Type 7 AFROTC scholarship....major disappointment since he received a 34 ACT, Eagle Scout, Summer Seminar, Drama Club student director, lifeguard and x-country letter. Still keeping his fingers crossed for Appointment.

good luck USAFA

Thank you, USAFA. Keep the faith, your son's stats are similar to or better than any number who are being appointed. The odds are good at this point for those who have made it this far - best of luck.

One thing an Ivy League admissions counselor told a friend 2 years ago - they could take ANY 1000 of their top 5000 applicants and nobody would see the difference.

It is very humbling.

True...concerning the difference. Having gone through the experience back in 1980, it is very humbling being associated with all those intelligent, competent, wonderful folks who are now my best friends for life...I wouldn't trade it for that world. Hard to explain that association to others. Those that make it all four years are in for a treat of a lifetime!!!

MOC staffer called Friday with THE good news for kid.

Looks like next week is the mass mailing, so far as the staffer knew.

Status of kid has not changed on website.

Hope this helps those of you who are still waiting. All the best to the candidates in this humbling and incredible experience.

Congrats!

As far as the mass mailing: Next week as in the week of March 16th? Or the week of March 23rd?

Does anyone remember how they are delivered? USPS? or Fed-Ex? I thought it was Priority Post Office.. let's hope they do not leave it in the snow like my last package..:frown:

Sometimes I have to work and am not here to stalk him for my daughter.. since he comes before she comes home from school.

Maybe it will come around the same time.. if it is Priority... whether you are in Alaska or new england!

Good Luck to everyone..I know it is hard to relax, but what else can you do?

So, my MOC hasn't called yet, and my status hasn't changed on the application page. Will my MOC call me and let me know, or will I just have to wait?

What do you mean by "those who have made it this far?" Aren't there 5,000 other kids who are waiting for an appointment?

According to last year's stats, only 2100 are qualified with a nom.

At thi time Roman is correct.

The SA's start out with @9K pcqs, from there it is whittled down to about 5500-6000 qualified to open a file (candidate). After that it gets whittled down again, some will not get noms, some will not be medically qaul or academic qual, which brings you down to about 2100 who are triple qual with a nom in hand. People tend to calculate how many noms are out there and forget to realize some of these kids could have 5 noms (3 MOC, Pres, ROTC) not counting the VEEP. SO even though there are thousands of noms, the number of candidates that have noms does not necessarily equate to being the same number available.

I think each MOC staff treats it differently. I wouldn't think it would hurt to call them, though, at this stage. (if patience is exhausted) Our staffer was particularly proactive in the process, hence they called us. Guessing that's a pretty pleasant task for them anyhow!

I believe my son will be part of the "mass mailing" (other threads have said this is a USPS delivery) as his application wasn't complete until 1/1 (no early admission/LOA), and his medical waiver wasn't granted until early March.

Looks like this is the week - good luck to all.

Still waiting, getting very nervous now. I wasn't last week, now its nerves BLAH!
I rarely get nervous.

We have never gotten any phone calls so you may know in mail first. Son got LOA in early Oct. (in regular mail - no phone calls), then nomination (by mail - no phone call) in Dec., and then appointment in Jan. (in mail but on website a few days before mail - still no phone calls). We live in a populus state though where our Senators don't even interview but Representatives usually do.

Appointment came in regular US Postal Service mail. In fact, everything above came regular mail.
