Mattis' Letter on civil unrest

I for one don’t believe systemic racism exists anymore. Racism absolutely exists but the notion it is systemic is wrong. I think a lot of the problems we are seeing is as a result of systemic racism that used to exist plus some additional issues.

When issues are raised such as the disparity in education, healthcare life expectancy etc that is really a disparity that has a root cause of wealth not race. IMO we have to address the issue around poverty and the issues that are resulting in people not being as affluent as others. I would point out here that I am not a supporter of using social welfare to achieve this, because the people most negatively impacted by that are the middle class those who have recently lifted themselves out of poverty.

The US is fixated on college degrees and that is an item that certainly needs to be addressed. Either by acknowledging that academics aren’t the only path for success or changing the culture within US business that you are only worthwhile if you have a degree. I moved to the US 9 years ago from the U.K. and come from a poor family. As soon as I was able I had to go to work so I could contribute to the family. I have worked my way up in my industry (I.T.) over the past 35 years an now manage a team of close to 600 people. Yes I have applied for jobs in the US and not even obtained an interview because I don’t have a college degree (direct feedback from company HR on multiple occasions). That is simply stupid.

My youngest son will be the first person in our family to attend college (USCGA).

My point is that it is poverty that needs addressing and the factors that continue to keep some people unable to lift themselves from its grip.

I agree with what you say. Racism exists, in all directions towards all types of people. As does the lack of respect and common courtesy towards everyone.
And I agree that a college education is not the end all, but you overcame it. I've overcame it. So maybe and individual can't get their ideal job because of it, it doesn't mean they cannot pursue other things and be successful at them. Find your niche and do something that makes you happy. People have forgotten how to be happy and content in life.

However, in my opinion poverty is like debt and addiction. It most instances you can fight it and overcome it. It takes hard work and a long time, maybe even beyond a persons lifetime. To most people it is easier to just say this is who I am, give up the fight, and complain about it. Thereby pulling the generation after them down the same hole with the same or worse mentality.

Completely agree especially if you are provided with the excuse of “The world is against you, you will never achieve anything no matter how hard you try”

OTOH, poverty is also like addiction in that if you don't get help, if each person is forced to pull on their own bootstraps to rise, then the success rate is poor. It's not just about excuses when someone fails, as both are incredibly hard to do alone. You need gumption and opportunity together. As in most cases, easy answers are usually wrong, and the options are written in gray. Good luck to us all as we work through this in the coming year.

You mean like when AD Army were sent to escort black schoolkids in the face of Governor George Wallace who wanted to shut them out. You're saying that Wallace ASKED for the Army to be there?

Kennedy federalized the state's National Guard.

Of all the top Admirals and Generals over the last 10 years I would love to interview Admiral Rogers who secretly broke ranks and went to President elect Trump and told him most of DC is after you and spying on you. I think Mattis is part of the so called deep state but I could be wrong. I really would like to talk to Admiral Rogers though. He basically went into hiding after that. I believe these racial issues along with COVID -19 are mostly manufactured in attempt to get rid of Trump. I also believe before Trump even took office Admiral Rogers was the only top official to become appalled by the beginning of what would be the Russia collusion scandal. I think Mattis is part of the other side that none of us here know about.

Admiral Rogers will not comment about what he did back in Dec 2016. Guess if he did they would ruin him!

If I were Adm. Rogers, I sure as shootin' wouldn't say anything to The Intercept.

Whistleblower Edward Snowden provided founders of The Intercept with documents from the National Security Agency and its counterparts around the world. Here are the stories we were able to publish as a result.

Those are The Intercept's words, not my characterization. The Snowden Archive, as they call it, was the gift that kept on giving throughout Adm. Rogers' tenure at the NSA.

Nice job @jeffinCharlotte !

Though only three stars, General Flynn is also on my list.

According to his attorney, he was targeted because he knows where the bodies are buried.

Yes Mr Flynn found out that you do not challenge the deep state. He almost went to prison for nothing/ being trapped by a corrupt FBI. Usually only certain 4 star admirals and generals get to know the secrets of DC and the elite are very careful before giving that 4th star. But I honestly can not remember a top official/4 star military officer like Rogers ever breaking ranks like that while still employed on active duty. It was very hushed by the media as to how Trump found out they were spying on him. Rogers will not talk about it to anyone not just the intercept. If someone can find an article from any news source about what happened in Dec 2016 from Rogers I will stand corrected. I won't hold my breath! But what the Obama admin did with the support of certain uber elite families that control the world is full out treason! If what Rogers said was true then it is very sad that we are so very corrupted at the top of all our agencies FBI, CIA, NSA, DOD, State, etc. Trump has had a fabricated scandal cooking even before he was sworn in until now with Covid and the race riots. You simply can not mess with the elite families even if you are president and have 1/2 of America behind you. Mattis is simply a mouth piece for these families in my opinion. Also Rogers was an Obama supporter and an approved elite loyalist but even he could not go along with what they were fabricating to overthrow a duly elected president. This will be a movie for sure 30 years from now.
