Anybody attending Max 5 graduation at Camp Shelby...thinking of driving down but it's a 1200 mil adventure one way.

I will be attending! I'll be driving from Orlando, FL. It's about 600 or so miles one way. Totally worth it.

we will be driving from TX to attend!

Did you receive instructions that it was at 10am at the parade field near the Southgate entrance of the Camp? I just want to verify that the info I got is correct.

Holmes Center confirmed Aug 7th. My cadet also confirmed in letter same date with arrival time at 9am. Max 4 cadet also confirmed same, with parade start at 10am followed by awards presentation which lasts approx 45min. Cadets will have till noon to spend time with family. It was suggested that since the only food available was from food trucks and obviously long lines for them, we are bringing in our own lunch.

Received this info re:

2014 FIELD TRAINING GRADUATION

PURPOSE: Field Training Graduation factors impacting cadets and family members

DISCUSSION:

- Graduation will take place from approximately 0900-1200. The parade starts at 1000.

-- Max 1: 12 Jun
-- Max 2: 26 Jun
-- Max 3: 10 Jul
-- Max 4: 24 Jul
-- Max 5: 7 Aug

- Following the parade, cadets may spend limited time with their guests. They may not leave Camp Shelby during this time

-- During this time, they can get food at the trailers near the (very small) PX. Food options are limited

-- There is also a small lake with picnic tables if their family wanted to bring food from outside

- At 1200, cadets will return to their flights

-- Cadets will bus to MSY the following day to fly home (drivers will be driven back to Maxwell to get their vehicles)

- Graduation will take place at Camp Shelby, MS

-- Army National Guard Post, located outside Hattiesburg, MS

-- Family members must have Government issued Identification to gain access to Post

-- Limited availability of restroom facilities (Porto Johns)

-- Not conforming to handicap or physically disabled persons

-- Parking is extremely limited

-- Parade deck is a grassy field w/ bleachers for visitors to view parade; there is no shade

- Hattiesburg, MS is approximately 20-25 minute drive from Camp Shelby gates

-- Lodging and restaurants are available (cadets must remain at Camp Shelby-NO exceptions)

SUMMARY: Recommended cadets and family consider these factors for planning/attending field training graduation

Enjoy your trip, I'm sure it will be great! Unfortunately I did not make it down to see my DS's graduation from Max 4. My wife is still mad at me for not getting to see her baby boy graduate and get awarded DG. Keep us updated on the ceremony and be safe traveling.

I went to the max 4 graduation, you'll be glad you went! Totally worth the drive. We brought lunch in a cooler and were able to be with our cadet until 1:00 even though they had said 12:00.

Have a wonderful and safe trip; just know it will be an amazing event. So sorry we can't make it down and are very much looking forward to see our DD in Boston on Friday!! Her 5 siblings can't wait to see their big sister!! If you see our DD, Mariella, give her a big hug from all of us!!

I have not seen any info regarding which gate to enter... Hoping someone here can give an exact address and which entrance??? It's a BIG place!

The field is right next to the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum. You should go in the south gate. Here is a link to directions to the museum which is literally adjacent to the parade field! Have fun! http://www.armedforcesmuseum.us/Pages/backup/Directions.html

I wish I was going. My son is graduating today and I feel terrible I'm not there. He gave me the wrong address for sending letters and they all came back :frown:

I've searched facebook and twitter looking for groups/pictures anything but couldn't find any....... He left us the wrong address to send him letters and they all came back :frown:
