I am a USCGA Scholars conditional appointee and I have had a waiver in the works for about a month now. I have heard of a May 15th waiver deadline thrown around on this forum and I was wondering if anybody knows the validity of that date.

I would call your admissions officer and ask. Mine told me they will probably continue to grant them till June 1st (due to COVID-19 delays)

howdydoodee is correct. DoDMERB is not involved in waiver decisions. :wiggle:

Thank you for the info!
Who does the waivers? My DS has an ROTC scholarship and has been waiting for 6 weeks for a waiver to be granted for a small patch of eczema on the bend of his arm that he gets during wrestling season. It's the size of a quarter. He just had to write an explanation. He didn't even have to see a Dr. My DDs (his twin sister) waiver was granted in less than a day after the waiver was requested by ROTC. I don't get it! This is the last piece of the puzzle.

The waiver authority of whichever branch you are trying to enter does the waivers. I, for example, have been waiting for a waiver for AROTC which goes through the Army waiver authority. It has been 5 weeks for me. I imagine due to the current pandemic, and due to this probably being the largest number of applicants they have to review, it is going to take a while.

I have am really hoping I and your DS hear in the next month (I've heard a lot of people have to wait somewhere around 2-3 months) but I know some cases take much longer. I mainly just want to know before college classes start as it would be a real bummer to start doing ROTC and end up not getting a waiver.

From what I can tell, waivers are granted by the respective waiver authority for each branch. For AROTC I think it is largely the US Army Cadet Command. But, waivers are all looked at on a case by case basis. Right now I'd assume the whole waiver process is backed up with COVID and they are prioritizing West Point waivers, as R-Day is fast approaching and finalizing the class of 2024 is an important piece of the puzzle. I understand the nerves though, I've had a waiver in the works for USCGAS for about a month and the waiting is awful! Good news is that we will eventually find out. Maybe not as fast as we'd like, but we'll get our decisions at some point or another. A waiver in a day is very impressive though. That's the fastest I've ever heard of anyone getting one.

I think the wait is especially bad right now since we're all cooped up with not a whole lot to do. I probably look at this forum and check my status at least a few times a day...

I definitely check my status and look at this forum more than a few times a day. Glad i’m in good company haha!

I've been talking to her and the most I can get is something along the lines of 'It's under review and you will know as soon as we do.' Not much more than that, and certainly no time frame. I'd assume they are prioritizing the Swab class of 2024 because their Day 1 is about three weeks sooner than the CGAS Day 1. USCGA and DoDMERB have everything they need from me, so it is up to the waiver gods! Hoping everyone at CGA is staying safe and that is by far the priority, so a little extra wait time is well worth it, even if it is driving me a touch crazy :D

His waiver for West Point was approved 6 weeks ago. Yeah, it was crazy. MY DDs was literally approved the next day.
