My DS got a Senators nom. He showed me his updated application and under nomination source it has " Congress/Senator 1 ". The senator that gave him a nom is a Class III by vote rotation. What meaning would the " Congress/Senator 1 " have if any at all?

I think it meas he has 1 Senator nomination so far.

I believe it means he has the nomination of the Senior Senator from your state. In any case I know Senators are numbered 1 or 2 and Congressman are numbered by their district number. I don't know how they would select the number 1 senator other than by seniority. Makes sense to me anyway!

Senator Blumenthal is the more senior senator so that would make sense. Good luck to your son with the appointment!

Vote Rotation

Raseo1Son,

In regard to the notation of "vote rotation". I should have worded this differently in my OP.

Class I - Senators Whose Term of Service Expire in 2019.

Class II - Senators Whose Terms of Service Expire in 2015.

Class III - Senators Whose Terms of Service Expire in 2017.

The vote rotation has nothing to do with the Academy but it becomes very important next November.

Cheers!!

I really wouldn't read much into this...not sure there is a rhyme or reason between which Senator is designated #1 and #2.

Actually, not really important next Nov. Remember that current MOCs who decide not to run for reelection or are voted out will retain their seats until late January, when the new MOC "class" is sworn in. So whomever they nominate will still be nominated even if the MOC making the nominations is leaves -- they simply turn their slates in before they depart.

I've never heard of a situation where, during an election year, the sitting MOC's slate was changed, etc.

Ooooops...Redirection Of Thought.

Sorry all! My reelection thought was more based on what's happening with well you know. Enough said with that craziness.

That said there is a lot of value in what usna1985 says about the elections in regard to the Academy. This is very good to know and understand. Thank you!!

Ha Ha Ha

@ EX BT USN ... I was thinking the same thing you were!

Now I get it. I'm a slow learner.

Seriously, though, people do get worried in election cycles about their noms and that shouldn't be a worry.

Daughter was nominated by a defeated congressperson without interviews. Incoming Congressman just forwarded nominations. There is no way they could set up interview staff and get new nominations in on time. I am pretty sure they do go with the courtesy of recognizing the nominations of their predecessor.
