Meanwhile...

Anything up??

Hang in there!

New pass rules and rated slots will now not come out until mid-Oct. No passing up a rated slot or switching either. You get what you get and don't throw a fit :/ Glad my firstie is my firstie and her doolie brother doesn't care to go anywhere off base anyway :)

Sometimes it's good to get away to recharge, see something different (like Cold Stone Creamery or C.F.A.) for awhile; everything USAFA-like will be there when you get back!

I don't disagree, but passes are very limited for doolies so it's good he's not too worried about it. And he can still go to church on Sunday.

Passes...time off...away from the T-Zo...

"Why, back in MY day..."

And I'll stop right there because I didn't like hearing that either!

I heard this story last night that cadets at USMA are wanting to revolt because they are making them go to recall formation in uniform on Sunday night. Currently, Sunday accountability is done in the company area and there is no specified uniform.

Does anyone know what prompted this change re: no more passing up a rated slot? So now, I take it, cadets can't see what they get in the rated world and, if they don't like it, jump into the non-rated pool. Why does Big Blue (or USAFA) keep changing the rules on slot assignments? Is this all about RPAs?

I assume the AF is trying to address either a present or future projected shortage(s) in rated positions...It's just a guess though...

I wonder if this new policy might actually reduce the number of cadets willing ask for rated slots. Those not willing to "risk" an assigned RPA slot may simply select a non-rated route and "5-and-dive."

There are a lot in c/o 2018 who want RPAs. I think some of them might have switched to non-rated if they don't get it but now they will not have that option. I think it's good they will all come out together now but the frustration is they made the change after preferences were turned in.

Then I would say let them 5-and-dive. The pipeline favors USAFA for pilot slots and if the cadets don't want to take advantage of that then it's their choice. There is no shortage of aspiring pilots in the ROTC or OTS pipelines who would love to take that slot. If there is an over abundance of cadets wanting non-rated slots then someone will be forced to go rated eventually.

If this causes a cadet major issues then they are in for a LOT of disappointments in the upcoming years when they enter the real Air Force. I think too many lose site of the fact that this is the military and not a civilian college. This is what they signed up for. This IS how the military operates. Best now to learn how to adapt and improvise. Fretting over everything that doesn't turn out like they think they were promised or deserved will only make it a miserable experience. Terms like SNAFU and FUBAR are common for a very good reason!

True, but being a common occurrence doesn't make something right. Getting their service selection is one of the single most important and anxiously awaited moments of their careers. So much of their future depends upon it.

To change that announcement date at the last minute (several times) is bound to be disappointing.

Changing the assignment announcement date, while annoying, is admittedly not that big of a deal. The much bigger deal, however, is how they changed the pass rules re: rated slots after the cadets were required to submit their selections. "SNAFUs" like these help explain why folks are separating from Big Blue in droves.
