What medical and mental diagnosis keeps a potential candidate from entering an academy or the military? How rigorous is the exam to weed out medical and mental illnesses?

Medical Accession Standards:


And, enter the DoDMERB website below, read every menu item and link in the left-hand side menu. DoDMERB is the entity which Q/DQ service academy applicants per the above standard. There are waivers for some conditions.


It is a thorough exam designed to assess an individual’s overall fitness for service. Military members serve in harsh, high-pressure operating conditions, in remote locations, often far from advanced medical care. The safety of a unit often depends on everyone being 100% and not as vulnerable to “breakage” when a situation demands full unit readiness.
